    Re: 2004-05 basketball schedules

Great idea on the bus trip! My guess is that the promotions dept has already contacted Jackrabbit Travel & Tours to set one up. Talk about a cross-promotion opportunity.

By the way my buddy Maverick 1 (we aren't the same person) told me that Wayne St is the 3rd team in your Xmas tourney which means I am going to come minus a blizzard. Still wish you give poor little uno a chance to play you but for whatever reason you aren't interested in us. We are playing at CSU-Ft Collins so will play D1 schools.
Prediction - the 4th school in your tourney will be Presentation College Saints from Aberdeen. Just a hunch but I will bet you go naia to get a 4th team. 100 dollars and some free cafeteria meals will get them to brookings.

I think that SDSU not playing UNO in the tournament has to do with both of us being in the NCC when the contract was signed. In my memory we usually have had NCC teams in the tournament, but SDSU and them would never play, as that would lead to playing each other at least three, if not four or even five times in a season. SDSU not playing UNO is a carry over from that.

And pc's schedule is already posted, and there's no SDSU tournament on it. Judging from last years game, I would say there almost no chance of them coming back to frost while Nagy is the head coach.

Why do you even care if SDSU does get an NAIA team. UNO would get an easy winin the tournament to warm up for the NCC. Teams are usually tired by this time of year anyway. It would be good for them to rest.

As for the 4th team, I have a feeling it might be Northern State in Aberdeen. We screwed them on the home and away series, and this might be a good way to make up for it.

              Re: 2004-05 basketball schedules

              UNO fans,

Congrats on your one D-I game.  Good luck agianst Colorado State.  Good luck with your D-II season.  Who knows maybe you will win the national championship.  Again, best of luck to you.

That being said, I am very satisfied with our first year schedule, and I don't really care who is coming to our Holiday Classic.  To be sure I want to win those games but the games that excite me are the ones against our fellow D-I universities.  You know:

              Butler
              Manhatten
              Wisconsin-Milwaukee
              SE Missouri State
              University of Denver
              Tennessee State
              San Diego State
              NDSU
University of Missouri - Kansas City
              Arkansas State
              University of Illinois - Chicago
              Central Florida
              Marquette

After this season you won't need to worry about seeing any NAIA teams and probably won't see many D-II teams (if you do it will probably be an in state team) on our schedule.  Sorry UNO, but the chances of you playing our Rabbits again are pretty slim.  No offense, but we have bigger fish to fry.

              Go State!  ;D

P.S. The only way I see Jackrabbits playing UNO in the future, is if the Privateers and SDSU can reach agreement. You know the University of New Orleans Privateers.

Eventually our Holiday tourney will include teams like Colorado, Marquette, etc.. UNO might want to take some pictures of Frost arena. I suspect its the last time they will set foot on the most hallowed grounds on the prairie.

Some respect from the Manhattan web site:

                      http://www.gojaspers.com/article.cfm?doc_id=5220

                      MEN'S BASKETBALL ANNOUNCES NON-CONFERENCE SCHEDULE

Riverdale, NY (August 31, 2004)- The Manhattan College men's basketball non-conference schedule has been finalized and will consist of nine games, with four to be played at Draddy Gym. Included in the non-conference slate is a second straight appearance in the ESPN Bracket Buster Saturday event, against an opponent to be determined, it was announced today by Manhattan College Director of Athletics Bob Byrnes.
“This season, our non-conference schedule is the most difficult one that we have considered in my 17 years at Manhattan College,” commented Byrnes. “Good competition has helped both our play and our recruiting efforts in the past and we are looking forward to the challenge.”

The schedule consists of five teams that played in post-season competition last season and six teams that posted 20 or more wins in 2003-04. Combined the teams on the Jaspers' non-conference slate posted a 150-98 record for the 2003-04 season, for a 60.5% winning percentage.

Manhattan will open up the 2004-05 season at home against South Dakota State, a Division I Independent, on November 21. Last season, their last as a Division II member, the Jackrabbits posted a 27-7 record. That game will be followed with another home game, against Atlantic 10 member Rhode Island on November 23, who played in the NIT and posted a 20-14 record. . . .

                      Go State! ;D

It must be exciting to be able to play Marquette, a DI power. I have been to A Marquette bb game at the Bradley Center and they have a tough crowd. The Bradley Center is nothing special and neither is Milwaukee. The downtown is clean but not exciting. Sports bar after sports bar. There is a casino and a couple cool German bars. Good luck this year at the DI level.

I think the mens BB schedule is fantastic, it contains teams I'd never assumed we'd ever play as recently as three years ago. But the womens schedule, wow. We're talking Pac 10, Big 12, SEC. This is just amazingly cool.

From what i hear for the mens Jackrabbit Holiday Classic the three teams for sure are SDSU, UNO, Wayne (NE) and they are waiting for a fourth team.

On WNAX during the halftime of the Winona game - they mentioned that the men's basketball team was trying to finalize the details of another game with a BIG 12 opponent for this season. Has anyone heard which BIG 12 team?

I did a quick check, and the only Big XII schools that have not released their '04-'05 schedules are:

                                Oklahoma State
                                Texas A & M
                                Oklahoma

Another Big XII school would be a nice pick up.

                                Go State!  ;D
