Another way to look at it is being a healthy situation in that we have a four person rotation in the two guard spots with Carlson,Broman and Bittle capable of playing both the point and the off guard. It will be possible to play two players that have point guard skills together against teams that throw a press at us.

The way i see it is the Jacks start out with:

          1. Carlson
          2. White
          3. Dykstra
          4. Larson
          5. Heemstra

About the 2nd. media timeout,Broman comes in for Heemstra,Carlson moves to the 2 and the other three move down one spot. From there they will give those other four a few minutes of rest by bringing in Bittle,Horstman, heemstra back in one or two at a time.

Basically i think the main four players are going to average a ton of minutes. Nagy has played his best players a lot of minutes in the past and i don't see that changing with this group. Fine by me.

Personally I'm a bit concerned about Broman's ability to handle large PG minutes against ball pressure. The competition he played in high school was primarily the smallest schools in the state. I did watch him play Pulley but never handled the ball a lot out on the floor. Secondly, it takes away what he does best which is as a 3 pt "maker" not shooter! Also, based on their "preferred" style this year of up tempo I'll be surprised if the bench doesn't stretch unlike previous years. I know they struggled the other night running kids off the 3 pt line and I suspect that'll get more challenging this year as the season progresses. That big lineup sounds interesting but it will always depend on what position the player can defend. I struggle thinking Dykstra is going to spend a ton of energy chasing around a 6'3" 3 guard all year.

For his first college outing, Broman looked pretty good against DWU, even if he wasn't pumping up 3's like he was famous for in high school. He's quick and determined, and there are several short guards in the Summit that the Jacks will have to chase around. Maybe practicing Broman as the No. 2 point just gives the coaches more flexibility to get Bittle on the floor wherever or whenever he's needed, especially for defense. Let's not wring our hands too much just yet. This is a potentially deep and talented team.

It is interesting that most of the talk I can recall here pegs Larson as a back to the basket banger. I didn't see him much in high school but from a source that watched him a lot said that he is a very skilled ball handler and athletic. He would swap your positions and have Dykstra as the 4 and Larson as the 3.

Not that Dykstra is a pure post player and his versatility is what makes him difficult to guard in every game. But my source thinks that Larson's game skews more toward a big athletic guard than a post.

Just a thought. Why move Carlson to the 2 when Heemstra goes out? If Carlson is in the game, leave him at 1 and plug Broman in at 2. I'm not sure that subbing one player should change everyone's position.

All this talk about who plays this and who plays there, yada yada yada... In that exhibition they are trying to figure out who is comfortable with what. Broman got some time at point to see if it works. That's my take.

All I see is a lot of interchangeable parts that can create just about any look that you could possibly want to throw at another team and a whole lot of depth. We can go big, small, and everything in between. These guys are going to be a nightmare for our opponents who are able to create a lot of mismatches.

Was listening to SVP and Rusillo talk about the new rule that gets rid of hand-checking entirely. That is going to create a lot more fouls and slow the game down a bunch. It also means that you better be good as a team at FT% and have some depth. That is going to be a huge factor this year and it plays right into SDSU's hands.

Andres is tougher and grittier than he ever gets credit for imo. People look at the points and think he's just a scorer. He's a lot more than that for sure.

Haven't heard anyone talk about Donlan. Did he play at all in the exhibition? Is he a 2 or a 3?

Donlan played, but not much. A few minutes. I was surprised that he didn't play more. He didn't really get a chance to show much. Maybe he's still hurting from his injury. He's listed as a 6-6 guard.

Thought Nagy said he was maybe the best player or most improved player, seems like he was expecting big things from him. Then again Nagy was really singing the praises of Prince and that didnt really pan out.

That's really a good point, one that should have been obvious. Unless he's a super ball handler, it would be better to have senior running the point than a redshirt frosh.

I hope you're right but it seems like every year we talk about the depth we have then a handful of players get the bulk of the minutes.I don't see that changing this year.

As far as the hand-checking rule,i watched an Iowa exhibition game Sunday and Iowa shot 50 free throws. I think the season,at least the beginning is going to be painful to watch.
