interesting, my guess is he will get a raise and will put him self in a position to get a head job somewhere. UNC is an interesting place though, many believe their HC is on the hot seat.

Seriously...I had a sarcastic "Well, that's a step down" in purple font typed up and everything, until I realized the same.

Opensd.gov says he made $58,200. Wonder how much more he's getting at Northern Colorado.

Good luck to Austin. This is a great opportunity for both him and SDSU.

I truely felt that we had our coach in waiting there. When Nagy stepped down, I felt like he would have been given the team if he wanted. Good luck to him but I have to admit not sure if I see this as a great move. maybe it was a great pay raise....

Hard to understand a lateral (at best) move to a program with a 255 RPI whose coaching staff could be gone in a year if things don't get a lot better, even if the salary is a bit higher. He would be a favorite for the Jacks job if Nagy were to leave - maybe he believes that isn't going to happen anytime soon.

thats what I was thinking too, but going to a worse program doesnt seem like a better chance to get a head coaching position. coming from a solid mid major who has proven he can recruit, he would have the chance for head coaching positions if he wanted with out going to assistant route first.

Kind of funny that he did it while the team was in Haiti. But seeing how he was "excused" from going with, it must have been already known before the team was leaving.

From what i understand he had interviewed shortly before the trip.

Congrats to Austin. I hope him and his family enjoy Greeley.

I would like to remind you guys that just because someone leaves our program that doesn't disqualify them from coming back if a job should open up. I see nothing wrong with our assistants going to other programs, whether a lateral move or not. No harm in learning as much as you can from as many people as possible.

                          Re: Austin Hansen resigns

I'm wondering if maybe Nagy advised him to leave the program, not in a negative get out of here way, but in a way that its best for him to not be in Nagy's footsteps/shadow.

Still was a little surprised, I figured if he left it would be for a D-II or NAIA head job. But UNC isn't a bad school, they could be a top 3-4 team in the Big Sky for next year. They have made it to the NCAA tournament before and if they are successful this year it could be a hot commodity if they are successful next year.

Getting experience with another program doesn't mean he would not be on the top of the list to replace Nagy when that time comes.

B.J. Hill was an assistant coach at SDSU when Hansen played for SDSU so I guess there is some history between the two that probably led to the move.
