That is great recognition but also a little embarassing to have the publicity based in part on how poorly -- compared to the other mid-majors and the majors -- we fund basketball and pay our great coach. Congrats to Coach Nagy. Another relatively objective source gives recognition to Coach Nagy who deserves such recognition (and more)!

The level of pay does not appear to match the years of service and the task of moving a program from D2 to D1. There might be a sense of some thinking that he cannot make more than me-we are all workers who should be treated the same. I will stop there.

Obviously a raise is very well deserved. If SDSU is serious about this DI stuff we need to take good care of our coaches from the big-3 sports.

What a nice form of recognition for Coach Nagy. Until both South Dakota schools pony up and fund a program the way it should be done, I'm afraid that both schools will deal with this issue. First of all, the level of pay. Secondly, the state only allowing one year contracts will be another weight around the neck of our athletic directors. I'm sure verbals are given, but it is widely understood that one year contracts are to be lived with. Good coaches, not coming from th past, will bounce out of Vermilion and Brookings like a ball unless this changes. The other worry are professors that will scream why coaches are paid what they are compared to tenured professors. It's all across the country. Look at Bohls contract.

I'll note that Oakland's Greg Kampe made the list, as well. And I think he said recently he's happy staying at Oakland until he retires.

I have much respect and admiration for the SDSU basketball program and what it has become and accomplished in the past few years. However, I 100% believe that Dave Boots is flat out a better coach. Easy to say he isnt based on past few years, but if you consider his whole body of work, I think Boots easily gets the nod. IMO.

I think there can be a discussion about who is better, but to say he (Boots) easily gets the nod is quite a statement. I think we can all agree that both of them have done very well. I just don't think Boots is the clear favorite in this debate.

Easy to say he isnt based on past few years, but if you consider his whole body of work, I think Boots easily gets the nod. IMO.

Flat out better coach. I think we could argue that point but I know that is exactly what you want.

Salaries in SD are well under those in other states across many professions. My best friend would love to teach in SD, it doesn't make fiscal sense for him so he stays in Minnesota. I get offer on a daily basis, serious offers, that would immediately double and even triple my income (I make plenty mind you). None is this is an argument against changing the state policy as it pertains to reimbursing our university coaches, its just that facts.

Lastly, I have a hunch (maybe more than just a hunch) that Boots will be available in the very near future. Perhaps the Jacks would be wise to let Nagy move on and sign Boots to the first long term contract if allowed. Just food for thought.

I can see the headlines now-Boots new head coach at SDSU??? Even if he is a "better" coach, this transfer will only happen somewhere in the middle of the night right before you wake up. Dave Boots a good guy OK I will agree. Dave Boots as the next head coach in Brookings??? I would give the Summit league 2 at large teams in the NCAA tourney first. I think I need to get an appointment with a counselor to get that idea out of my head.

Show some work. You can't just throw something like that out. Give me evidence.

I really enjoy Boots. His philosophy for coaching has produced some of my favorite teams of all time and those teams were great to watch. Unfortunately, I don't think that philosophy (great offense, poor defense) translates well to DI. His teams have always been able to score, but the match-up zone has never been that successful of a defense. I really think he needs to move away from it.

How about 300 wins but of course many of those wins were at the D2 level. Also you were cheering the yotes on when the SDSU transition started and finished. In 2004 if you had told me that SDSU would be in the 2012 Big Dance, I dont think I would have believed you. Boots will never see the big dance. You are right Boots and his Augsburg defense does not work in the SL.
