I feel its more a problem of consistancy from game to game. Some fouls are in one and not called in another. No consistancy if its a block or charge in the same game. Toich fouls are xalled but on a drive guys get hacked and no call. Seems one team finds the play calling more advantagous then other depending on the refs. When refs call fouls when guys are driving the lane wolters will exploit it but if other teams benefit from no calls on the post will exploit that etc.

I wasn't expecting the Jacks to win in Fargo for exactly the reasons that have been discussed in this thread. You've got one guy you can count on and 4 or 5 variables. Coach Nagy is going to have a lot of sleepless nights trying to figure out how to get this team to the NCAA tourney.

Nah, I was at the game and that was a total flop. During the game I had a number of chances to exchange thoughts about the game with a young Bison fan (20 something) sitting next to me, really nice guy - we shook hands after the game, and after that play I told him that NDSU must have a heck of a drama department. He laughed and told me sometimes you have to "sell" the fouls.

The refs. didn't cost us the game, but it is hard to win when the other teams shoots 21 fouls shots in the second half. I feel good about our chances with the next two games (if necessary) being played in South Dakota.

        Go State!

I too feel good about our chances with the next two games being played in South Dakota. We took them to the end on their home court. Any Bison fan that has a half a brain probably is not too confident about their chances in SD either.

Someone on here quoted Steve Alford and his comments about the first five minutes of the game and how important they were to the outcome. The first five made a difference in the NMU vs SDSU game, in that we got a lead and maintained it through out the game, and the same happened in Fargo. Had the Jacks played even with the Bison in the first five minutes, we have a 13 pt victory instead of a loss. I an with Coach Alford, and every minute of the 40 counts in some respect. We need to come ready to play. I think our guys and coaching staff know this, but as a fan its painful to watch when we are not ready.

I thought it was "good" in the technical sense: defender set and Tony was the one who initiated the contact with the shoulder, at least that's what it looked like on ye olde computer screen. I agree that there was a strong Academy Award element to it; not taking anything away from the strength of our guys, but Bjorklund doesn't end up on the ground unless he wants to or you throw him there. In any case, I don't think that call gets made in the rematch(es).

Talking about officiating is pointless. It is what it is. Sometimes you benefit, sometimes you don't.

The team needs to worry about things that are within their control like getting Dykstra and White more involved somehow. I've said it before, but Dykstra should NEVER be playing with his back to the basket unless he has a considerable size mismatch. There isn't a post in the conference that can keep up with him on the perimeter.

65 points is not enough for us to win most conference games. This team needs to be hitting 80 consistently in conference games.

I agree with all of this. I was MUCH more bothered by what I was seeing from the players on the floor (both teams) than the officials. We need more guys to get involved offensively next time, or we will lose again. That will be true at KC and USD as well. The offensive inconsistency of those around Wolters does a lot to keep me from getting over confident.
