I suspect they also look at home losses vs road losses and a number of other things.

It's frustrating being a mid-major because in order to get "quality" games most of the time we need to go on the road. For the most part, it's tough to win anywhere in college basketball on the road. The big schools don't have to go on the road. They pay for games they can win that beef up their record and RPI.

Take Duke for example. Duke didn't play a true road game until January! Now Duke played a tough non-conference schedule (Louisville, Ohio State, Kentucky (at the time was top 5)). I suspect if you look at top ten (twenty, thirty??) teams, most of them play very very few road games until the conference schedule.

What if the Jacks could have done that? Would they have been unbeaten going into conference play? I think that's a possibility. Where is our RPI and seed if we are 30-3 or 29-4?

That is a good point, how many teams won against a Top 25 team after a 1200 mile bus ride? One, SDSU.

        Re: Bracketology

Currently there will be at least 12 teams in the Big Dance with RPI's that are lower than SDSU's. That includes teams already in and teams from conferences with no team with a better RPI. IF RPI was the only factor, that should make us a 13 seed. There are 3 others that have rankings almost equal to SDSU's that could move up or down slightly as the week plays out. In addition, their are two other conferences where an upset of the #1 seed would result in a auto bid to a team with a lower RPI. So we should have a shot at a 13 seed, but..................

The rankings i am referred to are:

51/75 Top two in Mid America (Akron is the 51)
        60 Valpo
        61 Davidson
        65 SDSU
        66/96 Top two in Southland

        82 Top Am East
        88 Top Big Sky
        91 Florida Gulf Coast
        93 Harvard

        97 Iona
        111 Top Big West
        117 Top remaining Sunbelt
        144 Top Mid East

        178 LIU
        184 James Madison
        185 Top Southwestern
        288 Liberty

          Re: Bracketology

Remember with the field of 68, there are 6 (not 4) 16 seeds. Using that information Jacks should be the "best 14". Much rather get into a 13 slot.

            Re: Bracketology

Does the committee have a rule to avoid teams playing someone on this year's schedule from playing again in the first round? If so, perhaps New Mexico's seeding could cause us to get bumped up (or down) a slot.

I can't find a ruling, but it sounds as if they try to avoid it if at all possible. I've heard analyst say there is no way Rick Pitino plays his son Rich because they already played each other this year.

                !
Wow the WAC has gotten wacky, Denver and La Tech both lose on day 1 of the tournament.

                  Re: Bracketology

LA Tech getting beat could be just what the doctor ordered for the Rabbits. I would love to see them creep up to the 13 line. The type of team you play totally changes when you go from a 3 to a 4.

Didn't have a chance to comment on the Summit League Tournament games on Monday and Tuesday evenings. Thank god for Chad on Monday night. Big shots all over the place in the first half.
Tuesday night was as good as the Rabbits have been all season in my opinion. Big shots, Nate being Nate and great defense. Well deserved Rabbits.

The crowd was awesome both evenings. What a great two nights at The Arena. Bring on the tournament & ........................................GO RABBITS!

                    Re: Bracketology

Louisiana Tech and Denver losing certainly helps. If New Mexico State loses tonight the WAC winner will be below us in record and RPI.

Also, tonight in the MAC, Akron plays Kent State the 4 seed. Kent State beat them 68-64 on March 8th so let's hope for a repeat of that at 5:30 Central.

                      Re: Bracketology

I'm of two minds about Denver losing . . . on the one hand, it's good for our seeding, but on the other hand, it would have been cool to have two returning NCAA tournament teams in the league next year.

We'll still have three returning conference regular season champions, anyway--SDSU, WIU, and Denver, so there is that.

I'd rather play any of the other 4 seeds he's listed. Out pick and roll won't be nearly as effective against that monster zone.

That is a long trip for Syracuse. I'd like the other San Jose #13 seed, please.

Southern Miss in OT vs Memphis in C-USA Championship. A win by Southern Miss would probably push SDSU down a spot as Memphis will get in as well.

                                Memphis wins in 2OT.
