          Re: Tennessee State

How come Nagy's teams never defend the 3-point line?  I would rather foul on a drive than allow an open 3.  Lets score and make me look stupid.

Hokenson hits a 15 footer to lead by 2 points. Tenn St. has 5 secs. My heart rate is about 200/min.

Flowers misses what sounds like a layup. Jacks get their first ever DI win. The first of many, I am sure.

                  Nice, baby, nice.

Really good guard play tonight from Giever, Hokenson, and Kleinjan. Who would have thought our guards would bring us our first D1 win? Great job, Jacks.

I knew we couldn't win without them, but I didn't think we would win because of them. I was wrong and I'm damn glad to admit it. Keep proving me wrong fellas, I don't mind. Nice double double for Holdren. DeJong, what can you say other than disappointing.

Kleinjan adds a big boost while Giever and Hokenson carry the day. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't heard it myself.

The ability to come back from 12 points down on the road says a little, not sure how much, but a little. We will know more when this team returns to Frost to face the Wayne St. teams. We need a convincing showing for the home town and nothing short of 2 wins should be expected.

                          Re: Tennessee State

Nagy sounds really relieved on the post-game. By the way, I didn't realize that TSU played Alabama so close (8 points) last weekend.

                            Nagy:
Talked before the game about the atmosphere wasn't going to be great, 200 people in the gym, TSU played Alabama and Arkansas really well, they came out flat. SDSU didn't play good defense in the first half, but down 10 with 5 minutes go to, would have been easy to cash it in, incredible that they didn't do that. Kids executed well, super, super proud. Giever was feeling it tonight, that's what he's been doing in practice for five years. Andy K. came in when Luke sat and didn't lose anything at all, still a little worried about Andy's foot. Doctors telling him it's just a little weak. Got after Holdren at the half, playing a bit soft. Responded really well. 19 offensive rebounds is tremendous. Put quicker people out on the floor for final 5 seconds, fortunately Flowers missed the shot at the end, they wanted a foul but they'd gotten their share all night long, ref's don't like to decide the game. They got the shot, it just didn't go in. It had to break for us sooner or later, will make a great Christmas for everyone. Played one or two posessions of zone, mostly man to man. Trapped Flowers very well. We were fortunate to catch them flat tonight. We quit posting so much, set some screens, and our kids stepped up and made some shots. Maybe we need to play OVC schools all the time. We're going to win more games, we'll get more competitive, people won't want to come to Frost Arena, we'll have to go on the road to get competitive games. We only get a short break, but the win will make it a lot better for them. Hopefully our fans will get behind us, make a push towards .500.

One other tidbit: UW-Milwaukee lost to Kansas (#2 in the country) by 11. I watched it on the ESPN Game Plan and UWM was very competitive and outscored KU in the second half. They were doomed by a KU run during the last 7 minutes of the first half. Still, it says something about the caliber of opponents SDSU has played this year.
