The only thing I can think of is, that they try to match up new teams and in the past 5 years SDSU has played Northern Iowa and Drake.

I might be able to make this game.
I think the only thinking that goes into it from ESPN is "what will get ratings" with a small dollop of "who's earned a home TV game. That's why Buffalo-SDSU is at noon CT. SDSU is good enough to earn a TV game but who the heck are they, anyway? Nobody around the country (well, except in Seattle) has heard of the Jackrabbits.

And, how many people really go too far out of their way to watch a college basketball game on TV at noon on Saturday? The marquis matchups are the evening slots. (Oral Roberts, starting at 1 pm CT, didn't get a much better draw, schedule-wise, by the way.)

I think back to a D-II NCAA playoff game in Brookings vs. Gannon (in Erie, PA, quite close to Buffalo, actually), back in the day. They had a big guy that we heckled mercilessly as IGOR!!!! as I recall. Ah, good times . . .

Going into Sunday we were 8th on the home side and they were 8th on the away side in RPI. I know everyone was thinking a local team, but a game against an evenly matched RPI team will be a tough matchup for us.

Here are some RPI related statistics for both teams. They have played 7 games against top 100 RPI teams with the following results.......

Lost to #99 Princeton by 8
        Beat #61 Dayton by 29
Lost to #88 St Bonaventure by 6
Lost to #48 Brigham Young by 15
Lost to #13 Temple by 2
Lost to #71 Ohio by 8
        Beat #58 Akron by 12

We on the other hand have played against 4 top 100 RPI teams with the following results...

Lost to #38 Minnesota by 16
Lost to #93 Nebraska by 12
        Beat #72 Washington by 19
Lost to #49 Oral Roberts by 22

......based off of those games, I would call it a pretty close matchup.

Even though its a noon game its a Saturday noon game which means it should get some play. wish I had ESPNU, but I might try to make it.

It may not be a local team but it is a top 100 RPI team and my guess is not to many (esp out of conference) top 100 rpi teams have made their way to Frost in the past. I hope the SDSU faithful understand how well it would look if they pack the place to the ESPN people. I know its unlikely but ESPNU does broadcast a fair amount of mid-major games and if SDSU shows them something and if Nate Wolters impresses they may take a hard look at coming back next year for a game.

Bracketbuster story in the Argus Leader today (1/31/12):
              http://www.argusleader.com/article/2...ws|text|Sports

As noted by Joeboo, we have to pack Frost for the games on that day (Feb 18). The women will be playing NDSU and while NDSU has had its struggles, it promises to be another great battle between the arch rivals. NDSU Senior Abby Plucker from Parker, SD will be playing for the last time in Frost Arena -- she was the key to NDSU's win at IPFW last night. There's no reason to give Plucker any good memories about Frost Arena!

nice story.. ideally a missouri valley team would have been perfect but being we got an espnU bid that's just great and another step for our program and school.

They played and beat Niagara 82-74 at Niagara a couple weeks after we played and beat Niagara 79-71 in Georgia.

                        Re: Bracketbusters home game

Another benefit of packing Frost would be recruitment. My info has 5-6 "out of region" offers currently extended, with another handful being recruited. SDSU gets very few games available on TV out of the region, and this is the first home game. If there is a recruit out there considering SDSU so he turns in and sees 5K+ it would probably help more then if 2Kish

From Gojacks ticket site, as or right now there are only 132 reserved tickets left.

Also heard somebody talking behind me at last nights game that it was recommended (in the game program) that everyone wear blue and the students will be getting white shirts. Can anyone confirm this?

Yes, that was in the program last night.

Buffalo also plays Western Michigan in a few days so we will get yet another measuring stick for how good Buffalo is and they are good. The Jacks beat WM way back in early Nov. But, they are coming to Frost Arena and hopefully a full house. It is a three day weekend for the students. Prez Day! Hope they stick around as they do make a difference.

Man I am so dissapointed! I have national guard drill that weekend. Seems as though every weekend that I have guard drill something fun is going on. I will be following in spirit and hopefully online.
