Re: Oakland: Biggest home game in D-1 era?

Celebrating with a 90 Shilling Ale (or two). Very satisfying evening in Frost. The Jacks are back!

I'll always remember Coach Kampe, when the Jacks were in the depths of depression in the early transition years, saying how SDSU was doing it right, building the program etc. He said Coach Nagy will get us there. And he was right. We don't get rattled, we battle back, we're good sports...what a fun team to watch.

Oakland didn't really have a second scoring threat besides Hamilton. Not letting Bader get going was big. He couldn't have taken more than half a dozen shots.

I think Carlson might be the Jacks secret wepon this year. We seen glimpses of White last year but Carlson has been pretty lights out from beyond the ah, and when the coach talks about him he considers carlson the defensive specialist. He has a great jump from last year.

Huge hats off to Carlson, Wolters and Callahan, all playing 40 minutes. Not sure I've ever seen 3 guys go the length. Not to mention Valentine and Hamilton going 40 as well.

Valentine would be a valued player on any team. OU should maybe think about encouraging him to shoot the three more...he's not selfish enough.

Wow...didn't realize Carlson and Callahan didn't take a break. The team is in great physical shape -- they play hard the entire 40 minutes.

Good win for the Jacks.... The way Tyler sounded on the radio it reminded me of North Carolina when Roy Williams took over and I was watching a game in which they beat Duke and the announcer said, fans are showing up expecting a win now not just hoping for one. I think you can say the same for the Rabbit fans now.

As far as Carlson, I remember asking a friend of mine who had watched the schoolers play and it was the same time Felt had committed to NDSU and I asked about how good the kid was, and the guy told me SDSU got the better recruit in Carlson, said put a redshirt on him and he will be one heck of a player for the Jacks. I feel that he has done a pretty good job as of late. But it helps with him and White because now teams can't double Nate. which opens everything else up.

As far as only playing 6 guys, I think it was one of those opportunity things, where they only had to play 6 guys so they did. I don't think it was a Nagy didn't want to play the freshman against Oakland or was upset with them or something just a if the style of the game is going to let us play are 6 best guys the entire game we will do that.

Overall though a good game, but have to keep looking forward, two tough games next week, its tough to play in Utah, its tough travel to SUU, and then you play at elevation so they will have to be ready for it. ORU is a solid team as well.

I think he is only going to get better with confidence. His jump shooting form is the best of all the Jacks.

Carlson was game mvp imo. His shots the first few minutes of the second half were biggest shots of the game I think. Did coach say anything about only playing 6? I would have expected atleast prince to get in.

Now the next game on the road is the most important game of the year.

I think the team was pretty well rested from thurs. My guess was Nagy was going to ride his horses in this one, and leave nothing to chance. It was the right move. I expect to see plenty of rotation against SUU and maybe the same 6 against ORU. This is a huge stretch so early in the season. However, don't discount the Tbirds, and don't overlook them! Hopefully NDSU softens up ORU a bit, and we can smack them in the mouth after SUU.

Callahan got a break. It was during a free throw by Oakland and Tony subbed for the wrong player (Jordan was supposed to be taken out of the game). Officially, no time came off the clock. :-)

Anyone else not impressed with the concession situation? Every game I've been to...only one side open? Really?
