    ^^^^^ This.

I haven't had the feeling yet that we couldn't compete with these teams or needed to shoot 60% from the floor to stay competitive, which maybe is the most frustrating thing about the two loses. These games are good early season experience and they will pay dividends when conference play rolls around.

Yes, and in a postscript to my comments--realize that I'm talking in the context of the ability of the Jackrabbits to compete, night in and night out, with BCS conference teams--as if they were actually in the Big 10 or Big 12. Of course, they'd be hard-pressed to avoid the cellar in either league, but I don't have the sense this year that they--even as young as they are--would be a LOCK for the bottom spot in a BCS league.

What we have here with this edition of the Jackrabbits is a team with an ENORMOUS upside, especially in a league like the Summit. It's all a matter of how fast the underclassmen mature as Division I college basketball players.

Oh, and my comment about "hard-pressed to avoid the cellar in the Big 10 or Big 12?"

        A look at Pomeroy's site shows that -- before tonight's games --
        SDSU was #114 in D-1.
Penn State of the Big 10 was the lowest team of that conference, at #108.
        In the Big 12:
        Iowa State is #128;
        Texas Tech is #186.

        Summit?
        ORU is 74,
        NDSU is 104,
        Oakland is 106,
        SDSU is 114,
        IUPUI is 120,
        IPFW is 212,
        USD is 252,
        USU is 280,
        UMKC is 311,
        WIU is 332.

So right now it's ORU, then a cluster of NDSU/Oakland/SDSU/IPFW, then a big gap before IPFW, then USD, then USU, then UMKC/WIU.

        Disclaimer: It's really, REALLY early.

It's still early, but I like what I see. Defense-good. I agree the O will come around. Prince is already contributing in a big way. Make the free throws. I like this team. TV also was on the SPORTS BUFFET on 99.1, and said that the coaches spent an estimated 80% practice time on Defense, so that has to hurt the offensive output. Depth will always be an issue against the better BCS clubs, our O needs to start hitting it so the starters can get more rest. The free throws are a little sketchy, players should be practicing that on their own all year. For the most part record-wise, I think they are exactly where most of us would have put them currently.

Good showing for the Jacks down in Athens. Tight ballgame and in it all the way. Congrats on a good showing.

I would say the practices are time well spent. Some of us worry too much about offense. Starters need rest?
I dont get it we played three games, the season has hardly started and we are talking about rest time. Crazy! They need to play better defense and not turn the ball over.

Even if it is only the third game,Nate and any other player cannot play 38 minutes a night and still be as effective at the end of games - especially against the deeper BCS conference teams.

Perspective, people. Jacks hung in there against a pretty good team from a tough conference. Not that long ago we were borrowing football players to hold off Southwest Minnesota State. Expectations should be high, but realistic, especially if we are going to challenge our guys with games like this year in, year out. Go Jacks!

So in your eyes, the players don't get tired during the course of a game and Nagy should never take them out of the game this early in the season? Makes sense....your right it's crazy!
I agree with stopping the TO. Defense has been better than last year.....

As good as this team should be, I am still concerned when we play good but not really good teams and lose leads and lose by over 10 when in previous years with less talented teams we played closer against teams that were better then our last 2.

After 3 games, the defense looks better than last year but i think it's too early to say this team is more talented. As far as losing leads, this team isn't any deeper than last year. We're going 7 deep while paying a freshman just like last year.Nates getting gassed,so maybe Nagy will work more players in there.

Offensively,i think we need another threat to take some of the focus off Nate. Other than him we're too easy to guard right now.Prince has shown flashes, hopefully a healthy Jordan will be that guy.

I not saying that Walters should go the tull 40 minutes, he does deserve a rest, but what does offense have to do with Walters taking a break? If they keep the defensive intensity, they should not have to worry about holding the lead. In fact points in tranistion would most likely increase the lead at any given time. Also good defense would shut down the opponents offense.

This early in the season, how do you know how good Georgia is? They made the tourney last year. What teams were better in past years that we played closer? We just played two major conference teams and competed in both games. If we blow leads and lose the next 3 games, then i'll be concerned.

I would say every gofers team the last 6 years or so have been better. I don't see minute having much besides mbawake(sp). Um purdue was a decent team I think we played closer and all though the iowa teams probably weren't great teams we played them very well. I guess its to much to expect for us to win these games. Honestly I think a healthy dykstra and they could be very different games. I probably just feel disapointed that for 30 minutes we were right in each game but couldn't figure out the last 10 minutes.
