D-Town, here's a recent article from the Greeley Tribune that might make you change your mind? UNC is making some good money with our tuff scheduling. Here is the website :http://greeleytrib.com/article/20050...ORTS/103050060

      Re: The Colorado Buffaloes

Yes UNC can go out and travel all over the country to play big name opponents and receive some big guarantees for doing that. The money is the going rate so it is not like UNC is an exciting draw and doings something that other low level DI teams cannot also do. The point is citizens of Greeley do not follow UNC sports with the exception of football and unless UNC can figure out a way to get fans inside Butler-Hancock Sports Pavilion they will never gain another source of revenue and will continue to have to travel and the play the guarantee games. I am also assuming teams will be expecting guarantees from UNC to play in Greeley. As the article pointed out the only games of importance to the Front Range, CSU, Air Force, and DU are not guarantee games and UNC only makes money if they are able to fill Butler-Hancock seating capacity of 4,500. Your current rate is $6.00 for General admission so figure UNC can make is roughly $27,000. THis season UNC home game attendance against DU was 3,311. So at $6.00 UNC should have made $19,000 for instate rival home games. Not sure how to add season ticket holders because I do not know how any UNC has currently for men's basketball. And do not forget to subtract for students. I would guess for the DU game UNC had maybe 500-700 students? I do not think Big Sky conference basketball games will draw that well unless their are big alumni bases for the visitors in the front range and are willing to travel to Greeley. This year’s home attendance average was 1085 fans per game for men and 496 for women. Do you think uncbearsfan that attendance will raise overall next season? I don't.

D-town: I can't predict the future for UNC sports. I do look at things as an optimist and a realist. Once we get in to a conference I believe we will develop division 1 rivals that will draw more interest then when we were in division 2. This will help with a fan base. Not to mention that we have four in-state rivals at d-1. THis is where we have the upper hand compared to some of the other schools such as SDSU and NDSU. Both of those schools don't have an in-state d1 rival. So in summary, I do think finding a conference will help. But most of all we must start winning. We are an up and coming b-ball program with good, young talent.

I can't disagree with you enough on this point. One of the things that NDSU and SDSU have going for them is the fact that we are the Flagship Universities in our States. We are the big time and don't fight to get out of the shadows like you do in Colorado.

Face it CU, CSU, and Air Force will always have more fan interest then UNC. UNC will be jockying for position with Wyoming, University of Denver, maybe even Colorado College's hockey team just for some ink on the sports page. Hardly an advantage, having that many D-I schools all in one state is exactly why your row will be much harder to hoe then ours, IMHO.

          Go State! ;D

That's where you and I disagree '89rabbit. I think the in state rivals will only help, not hurt our programs. It will certainly help our football program when it plays CSU or Wyoming in the future. Both of those schools have traditionaly put 1aa teams on their schedules and we have obvious connections to both schools Wyo and Colorado State.

I would be willing to bet that the other in-state DI schools in Colorado are not considering UNC a rival now or in the immediate future. I will take our monopoly over DI status in the state over your situation anyday.

Bears Fan.. This is really pretty easy, SDSU and NDSU have no competitors in our respective states. If you dont understand that its because you don't want to. unc is the Number 5 school in your area behind CU, CSU, AFA, and Wyo. The general public in colorado doesnt care about you as proven by your attendance track record.
I've lived in Colorado in the early-mid 90's the Denver news stations wouldnt even put your scores on the sports shows back then.

Think what you want. Do you follow Colorado sports? I recall when I our womens team played CU and after the game a CU player was mentioning that UNC and CU are developing into more of a rival then CSU and CU in womens b-ball. This is just an example. Don't give your opinions regarding something you don't follow.

If they didn't care then why did we have four regionally televised football games? The media could be doing more, but it's getting better.

The Jacks have more of a rival with our fellow land grant institution to the north now than you can ever hope to develop with the instate institutions in Colorado. Not only do you have all the DI programs in the state to compete with for publicity and attendence you also have the four major professional teams in Denver. Face it you will always play 5th fiddle in Colorado's crowded collegiate athletic scene! If I was UNC I also would be seeking a different spokesman on this board who can better articulate the facts.

JGII, that statement makes me think you may have forgotten that our uncbearsfan has never let the facts get in the way of his opinions. Reason, logic, factual data are all met with scorn by our friend from the mountains.

Are you to tell me that you are All-Knowing regarding Colorado sports!? If that is so, then I am wrong and you are right.

You may want to stop with television broadcasts and see if you can draw more than 4000 to the actual game.
