Looks like we have signed two more guards to the 2011-2012 roster. That means 11 out of 15 players (if you don't count Horstman as a guard) are guards. Interesting. http://www.gojacks.com/ViewArticle.d...B_OEM_ID=15000

I'd rather have a guard that can play then a 6-10 guy that will sit on the end of the bench.

Re: More Guards????
Another season with no big, though I do agree with joboo22's quote as posted by zorropa. Still, we need a legit center if we're going to climb up the standings.Grumbling along and embracing my role. If I didn't care, I wouldn't care. Go Jacks!

Re: More Guards????
Evaluating the video which neither were what I'd consider great quality. I really liked what I saw from both, but liked Francis a lot. showed some explosiveness off the dribble and ability to find the basket.
Prince has an ESPN rating of 74 with a 193 PG position rating. Similar to what Chad White was rated at if I remember right.
Both are bigger guards in terms of weight/muscle. Not the 6'7" 190 type that we've seen a lot of, both are 6'3ish and would guess both are between 180-200 with prince being a bit bigger.
Wouldn't be surprised if either redshirted, but also wouldn't be surprised if either saw a lot of floor time. I hate evaluating from highlight tapes especially when I don't know the competition they are playing against.

Re: More Guards????
When I heard we were adding players and they would be eligible for this coming season I was excited to see what big man we added. A bit surprised that it turned out to be 2 players and that they are guards. I wouldn't be surprised I guess if they redshirt this year anyways.
It looks like Coach Nagy has identified that the small-ball, multi-guard style is how are going to win at this level and is building for that. It is a system that can have success, Villanova is a team that comes to mind that plays a similar style. Could make sense too since it can be hard for mid-major program to get those 6'7" + players that are talented and have DI athleticism (especially when you are in South Dakota)
The approach worked last year with us having a very strong offense, now he just has to prove that it can work by getting some tough, defense minded perimeter players to surround the shot blocking of Devine.

Re: More Guards????
- It says that Prince had offers from St. Bonaventure & Wisconsin Green Bay in 2010. That's a good sign as W-GB is a pretty good program and one that we have lost 3-4 recruiting battles with.
The guess at the future:
PG - 6'2" Sam Francis
SG - 6'2" Zach Monaghan
SG - 6'3" Taevann Prince
SF - 6'6" Zach Horstman
C - 6'10" Conner Devine
With more scholarships available, a true PF could be added too and bump out one of the guards for a more traditional line-up.

Francis looked really good in his video, what impressed me most was his defense though, especially off the ball which you don't see much of. Also he had complete games on Youtube which are a lot easier to evaluate then a highlights mixtape.

Re: More Guards????
Agreed and right on point Nidaros. Amazing how when Jacks make what appear to be really good signings that some want to immediately go to what we don't have or didn't get. How about looking at it that these two signees round out by far the best and deepest roster we have had in the D-1 era?
