SDSU will play men's hoops game at Arena

Jacks to host Manhattan on Dec. 20

The South Dakota State men's basketball team will call Sioux Falls Arena home for a day.

The Jackrabbits will host Manhattan on Dec. 20 at the Arena, continuing its push into the state's largest city and media market.

SDSU will be on holiday break when the basketball game is scheduled to be played at the Arena.

"We made a commitment in this process (of moving to Division I) that we were going to come to Sioux Falls because of the number of alumni in the area and the growing fan base in Sioux Falls and the region," said Fred Oien, SDSU's athletic director. "And we're doing that in a way that doesn't conflict with the student population by choosing times that don't affect them that much."

The Jacks lost 73-69 to the Jaspers on Nov. 21, 2004 in Riverdale, N.Y. In its second Division I game, SDSU nearly upset Manhattan - a team which made it to the second round of the 2004 NCAA Tournament - on its home court. . . .

Playing Manhattan will be the third time that SDSU will take its Division I show south to Sioux Falls. The Jackrabbit baseball team will host the Minnesota Gophers on April 20 at Sioux Falls Stadium, and the football team will play California-Davis on Oct. 8 at Howard Wood Field.

The Jacks' men will open the season on Nov. 18 at Final Four-bound Illinois. SDSU also has road games scheduled at Nebraska (Dec. 6), San Diego State (Dec. 17), Montana State (Jan. 2, 2006) and Marquette (TBA).

Games at Frost Arena will include Southeast Missouri State (Nov. 25), Tennessee State (Dec. 3), Butler (TBA), Wisconsin-Milwaukee (TBA) and Missouri-Kansas City (TBA).

    Go State! ;D

Can the Jack nation fill the 6100 seats at the old Sioux Falls Arena for the December 20th game against Manhatten?

I don't know about filling the place. I bet there will be quite a few people there though. I know I will.

I'll be there with a few friends as well. A perfect time for last minute holiday shopping and to take in a game. I would think with decent weather we should be able to get at least 4500. Also would be a great time for some pregame festivites.

I think it will do well. Especially during a time where bad roads would kill attendance in Brookings.

I would think that there will be a fan rally/party similar to the pre game for the Augie game in the past. I may even return to SD a little earlier for the holidays than planned to take in that game!!

Buffalo Wild Wings usually has pregame festivities for sporting events right by the arena there. It's a good place.

I think this move was a good when you consider the date of Dec 20th and Christmas break will have started. With the Empire Mall being full of out of town people such as Brooking people, the game is going where the people are, and no doubt there will be new people show up for this game that have never thought of driving to Brookings.

Excellent move for the Manhatten team as they dont have to use a helicopter to get to Brookings, only need a van to get around SiouxFalls and to get on the plane again to either go home or up to Fargo. NDSU has them on their schedule as well and at home. Mike H will understand the mention of a helicopter ;D ;D ;D

                  Re: SF Arena Game

Considering the date I think there may be as many students in the Sioux Falls and surrounding area then in Brookings that day. I know for the football game we are running a few shuttle bus for students down to SF although I haven't heard any word on the bball game and it is over Christmas break.

Side note on the football game. That one was moved because the state soccer championships are in Brookings that weekend. Every motel in Brookings was booked. There wasn't even a motel room in 30 miles for Cal Davis to stay in.

Considering the fact that the SF Arena is maybe 2 miles from me, I will most definitely be there. And I will drag others.

                      No doubt:

Interstate 29 between Brookings and Sioux Falls will look like Interstate 80 between Omaha and Lincoln on game day this year! Eventually, as our fan base grows the traffic will be going both directions!

Getting the Media in the largest city in South Dakota involved is a great marketing strategy for "The Choice of South Dakota!"

No reason not to support "THE ONLY DI SCHOOL IN THE GREAT STATE OF SOUTH DAKOTA!" We have no peers!

"THE PRIDE OF THE DAKOTAS" is more than just the best marching band in the five state area. It has become a movement of people showing interest in and then support of and will eventually turn into a force of raving fans for SDSU from

                      Ladner, SD to
                      White Rock, SD to
                      North Sioux City, SD to
                      Ardmore, SD.

It is being fueled by the excellence of SDSU! How much time will it take? No one knows for sure, but make no mistake about it; it will happen!

If my schedule allows I will be there and I'll bring has many Rochester area alums as I can fit in my van. If you are looking for a nice hotel with a nice pool for the kids try the Clubhouse on Louise. Great rooms, reasonable rate for suites and a great pool for the kids.

                          Here is an idea!

We should allow students showing their id cards from an NCC school to get in free. It would be kind of a "thanks for the memories effort." We are no longer their rivals! They will soon become our fans as we face off with Biggest and Best in the country. It would be a great publicity stunt. The news media would certainly pick up on it.
