The South Dakota State men's basketball team will call Sioux Falls Arena home for a day.
The Jackrabbits will host Manhattan on Dec. 20 at the Arena, continuing its push into the state's largest city and media market.
SDSU will be on holiday break when the basketball game is scheduled to be played at the Arena.
"We made a commitment in this process (of moving to Division I) that we were going to come to Sioux Falls because of the number of alumni in the area and the growing fan base in Sioux Falls and the region," said Fred Oien, SDSU's athletic director. "And we're doing that in a way that doesn't conflict with the student population by choosing times that don't affect them that much."
The Jacks lost 73-69 to the Jaspers on Nov. 21, 2004 in Riverdale, N.Y. In its second Division I game, SDSU nearly upset Manhattan - a team which made it to the second round of the 2004 NCAA Tournament - on its home court. . . .
Playing Manhattan will be the third time that SDSU will take its Division I show south to Sioux Falls. The Jackrabbit baseball team will host the Minnesota Gophers on April 20 at Sioux Falls Stadium, and the football team will play California-Davis on Oct. 8 at Howard Wood Field.
The Jacks' men will open the season on Nov. 18 at Final Four-bound Illinois. SDSU also has road games scheduled at Nebraska (Dec. 6), San Diego State (Dec. 17), Montana State (Jan. 2, 2006) and Marquette (TBA).
Games at Frost Arena will include Southeast Missouri State (Nov. 25), Tennessee State (Dec. 3), Butler (TBA), Wisconsin-Milwaukee (TBA) and Missouri-Kansas City (TBA).
Go State! ;D
