Unlike what Stu thinks...SDSU basketball is on a major upswing. Great facilities and 2 of the best players in the conference coming back with great homecourt advantage in the postseason--which leads to a great chance of making the dance. I'm guessing we could land a good coach here looking to make a name for himself.

Re: Who would replace Nagy
I hope Nagy stays but if he does get the job were in a very crucial situation to get a coach that is able to get us to the next tier. Although Hanson will eventually be a Head Coach in Div I or II in the future, I don't think right now would be the time for him to step into that role. I'm sure he will be looked at but I can't imagine it would be now. Other Options- Marg @ Minnesota State, Tom Billiter (sp) Augie, Ryan Miller @ New Mexico, that would be a shortlist not sure if any other surprise options would be available. Out of that list it would have to be Miller- Great recruiter at the DI level, local ties, experience under Alford and Calipari. I'm assuming he would have to take a paycut to come.
Any other thoughts on canidates?
Hopefully Nagy stays a rabbit.

Re: Who would replace Nagy
um... I don't see Nagy getting the job and even if offered I don't know if he'd take it, he has 5 kids that are school aged and seems to be committed. That said I've always believed he'd take a job to go back to Illinois if the money and situation was right. he is from Champaign, I believe his wife if from Chicago? I believe his dad still lives in Illinois and I think someday he'd like to go back.
I don't see Miller taking it, I've heard he makes close to twice what Nagy makes as an assistant.
Personally if/when I'd like to go with someone in the program or who has been situated in the program like a Cunningham at Indiana State or Northern Colorado's head coach.

Re: Who would replace Nagy
SDSU has had some good luck with hiring young coaches. Just look at AJ and Ritchie Price.
It's a mute point in my mind anyways as I don't see Nagy leaving quite yet. If he wants to get back to Illinois than wait a couple more years and his options and chances will be better.

Re: Who would replace Nagy
This one thread that I wish had never been started because we dont know if Nagy has been chosen at NIU. He may not be selected and could be with us for a while.
State law requires a national search and who we finally select is a choice beyond speculation. I think they would get a ton of applications and the committee will spend some time sorting them out.

Speculation of this nature is why fan message boards exist.
Personally, I feel the list of replacements is long. Quite long indeed. We can scratch Billy Gillispie off the list as Texas Tech has snatched him up. Also, I think Tubby Smith may head south if he decides to leave the Gophers, so he's out as well. One up and comer though is Pat Knight (Bobby's son). Recently unemployed, good family history of success on his side. Possible name that could come up.
Am I full of crap...sure thing.I updated my signature for the first time in six years.
