  • Re: IPFW-Round 2

All I know is that I hope we play IPFW again at some point in Sioux Falls!

My excitement level for the Tournament has really picked up, given the developments of the last 10 days. It's going to be fun.

We're playing for a 3 seed now, we're 3rd in the league right now with 10 wins, tied with IUPUI behind Oakland and Oral Roberts . . . ORU would have to lose out and we'd have to win out for us to tie them in the standings, and I'm not sure how the tiebreakers would go.

Oakland has the #1 locked up.

I don't see ORU losing out, and it looks like IUPUI may be fading a bit with the SUU loss (they play ORU at Tulsa, and they've already lost to the Golden Eagles in Indy--which doesn't bode well for their chances.) UMKC could give SDSU a big boost towards #3 by beating IUPUI on Saturday. If Southern Utah can do it, UMKC is certainly capable.

Of course, we go to Oakland, but they seem a bit wobbly right now. Then we go to NDSU, who's got to have by now used up all possible good karma vs. SDSU that they may have had.

Meaningful games. Lots and lots of meaningful games.

IUPUI was leading SUU 28-10...at home...and absolutely got run out of the gym after that. WOW!

I'm just looking at the win column.
              IUPUI is 10-5
              We're 10-6.
What we really need is an IUPUI loss to UMKC on Saturday night, and then a loss to ORU next weekend. Meanwhile, we need to take care of business at Oakland and NDSU. We finish 12-6, they finish 11-7. We get 3rd and don't have to worry about tiebreakers.

In other words . . . win out, and let the chips fall where they may.

I'm pretty sure we have to finish a game clear of ORU and IUPUI in order to gain a higher seed than either. ORU owns the tiebreaker against us by beating us twice, and IUPUI has the tiebreaker right now because they have beat a higher placed team (Oakland).

Now if we beat Oakland on Saturday and then finished tied with IUPUI, it could get messy. We would have split head to head, both beat Oakland once, and both been swept by ORU (2nd place team). I think it would come down to records against the 5th place team, which right now is IPFW...and should favor us. Lots of basketball to play before we worry about that though.

Well, Oakland played a tight game vs. the Bison tonight, so maybe it will even out some.

According to Steve on the postgame, Nate had 30pts, 9 rebs, 7 assists, and only 3 turnovers, not a bad night.

Coach Nagy said he had to calm Nate down in the 1st half because he was getting mad that he thought he was getting fouled yet it wasn't being called, and you don't want to get Nate mad. (He scored 22pts in the 2nd half.)

I missed the entire game, but...

Love it! Good to go in there and stomp 'em, especially when we typically haven't played well there.

Complicated, but I think you hit it right on the head with this one.

Oakland is going to be a tough game (duh). And that darn monkey/gorilla against the Bison has to come off sooner than later, I would think/hope.
