I am serious. The "IU" stands for Indiana University. The "PU" stands for Purdue University and the "IFW" stands for Indiana at Fort Wayne. So the official acronym is IUPUIFW. The name is Indiana University, Purdue University, Indiana at Fort Wayne or IUPUIFW. But they shorten it to IPFW.

So then just answer his question, where do you have them finishing this year?

We are Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (Note the en dash NOT hyphen)
    NOT: Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne
NOT: Indiana University-Purdue University at Fort Wayne
    NOT: IU-Purdue Fort Wayne
    NOT: Indiana U-Purdue Fort Wayne

    We are IPFW.

    NOT: IUPUFW
    NOT: I.P.F.W.
It's on page 38 on the PDF.

Oddly, they did not even think that someone would even attempt to refer to their institution using the collection of letters you're asserting is correct.

May I humbly suggest you direct further assertions of the correctness of any collection of letters other than IPFW to refer to that institution to the IPFW University Relations and Communications, not to anyone on this board.

The executive director there is Irene Walters, walters@ipfw.edu. I'm sure she would be happy to hear from you.

(Yeah, I used a hyphen, not an en dash. I hate IPFW, after all.)

(Apologies to jacksdistance . . . I had to get one more good stomp in on this one before moving on . . .)

I noticed thursday night that Alex Young has overtaken Wolters as the PPG leader in the Summit.

Young was 19.something and Wolters had fallen to 18.something.

Not sure how Young did Thursday. But Wolters had 19.

Filbert, honestly, I'm impressed that you read to page 38 of the .pdf. Or did you just search for some of the words?

And, uh, yeah, that Nate Wolters guy is pretty good.

Seeing in the paper Louie Krogman top the 1000 point mark for his career made me think how much I would like to see Wolters break Krogman's ankles a few times before they graduate. I believe Krogman is a Junior.

Nate Walters absolutely schooled Young in the SDSU/IUPUI game last night.

21 points, 11 assists, 4 rebounds and only ONE turnover. What a night for a super Soph.

And a kudos to Dale Moss for really stepping up his defense this year. While his signature dunks are an inspiring sight, and help get the crowds into the game, his defense is stellar.

I was talking about this with a friend last night. Some kids sitting behind us kept talking about how sweet it would be if he here and they didn't realize for SDSU, Louie would be the 3rd or 4th guy off the bench. Nate would absolutely destroy Louie if he had to guard him. And as we saw last night, a zone isn't much help.

Nate is unbelievable. Some of the stuff he did last night is making me wonder if he won't get at least a sniff at playing at the highest level. Needs to improve his jump shot but that will come with time. The kid is a pleasure to watch.

I think that his jump shot will come, but the thing that he will have to work on to get to the next level is his quickness. Many of the moves that allow him to score at this level will not work against a NBA defense. I think, as time progresses, he will develop for a team to at least take a flier on him.

Wouldn't it be sweet to see him work his way thru the D-League in Sioux Falls.

Exactly why I think his jump shot will be the key. Become such a threat that defenders need to close out, when they do he can get past them and dish. If they don't close out, 2 points. If you can get a shot up of the dribble do it. I don't love the runners but I'll let him slide on that.

It's darn tough to improve "quickness". You can teach a player how to take better advantage of an opportunity off the dribble or pass but it's hard to actually make someone quicker. "Quickness" is more of an innate quality.

The kid is smart, works hard, and doesn't get flustered. Oh yeah, he is really, really, good at basketball to.

I am talking about basketball "quickness." He can improve his burst off the first step and he can improve on his ability to jab step to create space to shoot.

That's what I meant to. Goes well beyond just those factors to include how you land when catching the ball, what level you dribble at, how you come of a screen or rub your defender, all those things get you or the ball where you or the ball are going faster.

That post was sort of my way of saying I'm an ass sometimes, actually, a lot of the time. I am not afraid to admit that I may have been wrong, maybe, not likely but maybe.

Let me reiterate, I don't give one damn if he ever plays anywhere else, I love watching him play and I'm ecstatic that he is a Jackrabbit.

Have to keep in mind that Wolters is only a sophomore. His best ball is still ahead of him. From all accounts he's a gym rat and an extremely hard worker. He's improved by leaps and bounds from freshman to sophomore season. If continues on the current track the sky is the limit.
