Even Having Grius, it AC wouldnt have dicked the team, he would prolly be at SDSU and his abilities in the post would really help this team. This team can still be darn good, but having a guy like matt jones in the post would help a lot with league play for teams that do have a legit centerman.
    Here's an interesting exercise:

Name the Summit League teams with a legit centerman.

They most likely go again this year, and Almost did the year before when NDSU men had a stacked senior team to win a close one.

But his skills for the post were very good, never really left around the basket and could defend and score as a post.

compared to what we have, 3 atleast, maybe 4.

I'm not saying our coaches don't recognize the importance of true big man. What I was trying to get at was that they aren't just hanging around out there waiting for SDSU to call. We compete with each and every recruit that we get. I'm sure we've gone after many, many true big men over the past couple of years and lost out on them. Hopefully we will get one soon and then we can all decide if that is the golden ticket to the NCAA tournament. Personally, there is a lot more to it and we have started to progress towards that. We need to keep it rolling though, keep the confidence high!

I would take Iverson for our team, I just wouldn't trade Dykstra to get him.
He's shown me more than Dysktra has.

Iverson is a great player who plays a key role on the Gopher team. He would be dominant in that role against the majority of the teams we play. It isn't really possible to compare him to Dykstra at this point for several reasons. Fact is, Nagy and every player on the team would benefit greatly from having Colton Iverson in a Jackrabbit uniform. We would have contended for the league title every year with him on our team.

I think thats what hurts, when a good player from SD goes out of state, it hurts us. You put him and Tviedt from NDSU on this SDSU team, and then Oakland is chasing us for 1st. If we keep top talent, we could be a solid mid major, and honestly a team that could beat a top 25 gophers team. Instead of that sitation, we are playing against these other top players in the state who are major roles in beating us.

Iverson is a good player who would really shine in a league like the Summit. He most definitely would help the Jackrabbits. I haven't said otherwise.

What I have said is that given the choice between a player like Dykstra and a player like Iverson, I would rather have a player with Dykstra's skillset.

I haven't seen anybody in the Summit like Dykstra in the years I've been watching, especially considering the fact that he is a true freshman. You can't say that for Iverson (Keith Benson).

IMO, a 6-8 power forward who can run the floor and shoot while playing D and rebounding is as hard to come by as a 6-11 center who can actually play, IMO.

For the record, it isn't as if Iverson made Dykstra look out of his league. Iverson had 15 points and 5 rebounds. Dykstra had 12 and 5.

Iverson's team won largely because of his contribution and as it was pointed out before, they are filling different roles on completely different teams.

The fact Dykstra has a great deal of talent and upside is without dispute. I love the way he plays and I think he will be a dominant player for SDSU. That doesn't change my opinion that Iverson is a great player and would have been one of the greatest Jackrabbits of all time. I think Dykstra might be one as well.

I get the impression you don't believe Iverson is a great player and I think you are wrong.

I do think Iverson is a good player in the Big 10 at Minnesota (he will never be first team all conference), and would have been a great player for SDSU in the Summit. I would have loved it if he were a Jackrabbit. I don't think that having him would have guaranteed top finishes or a tournament appearance for the Jackrabbits.

I do not think Iverson is close to the player Keith Benson is. And I would rather have a freshman with Dykstra's abilities than a Junior with Iverson's abilities. That's all I'm saying.

From the outside looking in, it seems like Iverson chose to shoot for the stars by going to Minnesota (I'm sure at the time he was hoping to be the next Mike Miller or Jared Reiner). Good for him, and best of luck, but he isn't as good as either of those guys were at this point in their careers. IMO, he would have been much better off playing in the Summit or like league.

Big Jim Nelson, of KSFY sports, thought that this was a pretty neat tidbit. He just reported that on their way home from the Gophers' game, the Jacks bus stopped to help a stranded motorist. She rode the bus to her destination of Lake Benton.

Jacks sounded like they played well...but like everyone mentioned here when Southwest Minnesota State played SDSU, it was "their Super Bowl". Could the same be made for SDSU playing Minnesota? Maybe Gophers were looking ahead to Big Ten as well.

                              Facts:

Iverson would be first team Summit

Tveidt offer taken off table because we decided to give it to Cordova.

Gruis offer taken off table b/c Dykstra was coming.

Would have had Gruis had we known Cordova was not coming back sooner.

Jackmd LOVES Yankton like I love HWY 81 that runs thru it!!

Iverson's Stat line will be the best he has all year!!!

One Recruit changes who the other recruits are.

The Gophers are better than us and should be better than us!

If we can beat or play with all the Mid-Majors and compete with lower level Major Conference teams we are meeting expectations.

Only thing in a season that matters are the THREE DAYS IN MARCH!!!

I don't know if SW MN considered a game against SDSU as "their Super Bowl" but I'll assume for the sake of discussion that your statement about SW MN is accurate. Now, the answer to your question is "No, SDSU went into the game knowing: (a) they beat the last Big 10 team they played; and (b) they had a reasonable shot at beating Minnesota." We're in the same division and I think this team knows they have to play and act like they've been there.

Comments by Tubby Smith and some of the Gopher players sure didn't indicate Minnesota was looking ahead to the Big Ten. SDSU was uniformly complimented as being the type of tough opponent Minnesota needed to schedule to prepare for tough Big 10 competition.
