    Re: 05-06 Men's Predictions

I think 8-10 wins is realisitic. 15 is possible (all things are) but cannot and should not be expected.

    Ill take it game-by-game.

I also think home attendance numbers will be directly affected by their success. Win the tough games at home and stay close on the road and Frost will be rocking. If it's like last season, many will not want to make the drive.

Trust me, I look at this season as realistically as anyone. A .500 year would be an accomplishment akin to winning the D-II championship. But I ain't gonna say it can't be done until the rest of D-I proves it to me.

A small amount of method to my madness: recruits read this site. When they consider whether or not to commit to SDSU, they need to know that State is not some Western Somewhere State College and A&M. We are a statewide, Land-Grant, flagship university which has become used to success on the court.

(cue "The Yellow and Blue" playing in the background, as a Pattonesque Filbert climbs the steps in front of the huge SDSU flag...)

        We are State.

As a fan, I'm not going to concede that Kentucky or Illinois is a better team on the nights we play them until they show it on the court. I'm not going to concede that a .500 season is unreachable until the number in our L column reaches 15 this year. If and when that happens, I'll go on rooting for the Jacks and hoping that they win every game until the end of the season.

Will it take everything our players and coaches can give to get there? Absolutely. Does it take positive support from the fans, especially when things don't go as well as we'd all like? You bet.

To the rest of D-I, I say, Beware the Hare!

On this note, although mine will be a little more off topic, I thought put in my 2 cents worth as a Sioux Falls resident.  I agree with the above statement regarding attendance being affected by performance, but SDSU will never have the attendance it wants and needs on a regular basis from Sioux Falls folks until one thing happens:  Separate the mens and womens season tickets.  I looked into getting them this year, but the thought of driving up to Brookings, sometimes 3 times a week for a basketball game seemed too much, especially with gas prices the way they are.  I'll still attend the "big" games, but season tickets just weren't possible.  I imagine the women's games might suffer an attendance hit, but might be better overall for the Sioux Falls attendance if the packages were separated.

              I totally agree with that.

There should probably be a wider range of packages, from a full mens & women's season ticket, to separate men's, separate woman's, and more partial packages like the two 3-packs the athletic department is currently offering.

Offering a full mens/women's combo ticket package at something like 3/4 the price of buying a men's-only plus a women's only package would give an incentive to buy the full season while also allowing those men's-only (or women's-only) fans to focus on the games they want to see.

If you want to be sneaky, offer the full mens/women's combo only to donors of a certain level or above, and let snob appeal do its work.

One thing that probably slows down offering separate men's and women's package is the Title IX requirement that the men's and women's programs get equivalent financial support. So if for instance instead of 1,000 combined season tickets, you sell 1,000 men's-only season tickets and 100 women's-only, the men's program doesn't get the full financial benefit, and the women don't get those ticket holders who come to games because they have the ticket but might not buy a standalone women's package.

The underlying issue here is the demise of M-F doubleheaders. Being 430 miles away, I'd love to see some double-headers scheduled. I'm afraid however those days are gone, never to return. Women-men doubleheaders almost never happen in D-I basketball.

                  Re: 05-06 Men's Predictions

Out of curiosity I checked out Husker B-ball tickets.

They are seperate for Mens and Womens.

They use the donation requirement for the lower two sections in mens, but not womens. Women's tickets look to be less.

As for title IX, I highly doubt that has anything to do with it. They are both seperate events and SDSU must have some reason to lump them together at the moment. I'd consider Men's season tickets right now, but not while they are connected.

                    Re: 05-06 Men's Predictions

Hare is my confession. I have gone to Jackrabbit football, baseball, soccer, but never a basketball game. I have a really weird work schedule that makes it very hard to make evening games. This year i hope to make it to my first JACKRABBIT BASKETBALL GAME. Actually i hope to be at 5 games possibly 6. are cowbells allowed in frost arena. Will i get the old evil eye for being to loud. Any ideas. Thanks.

Your not going to get the evil eye..."WE NEED MORE COW BELL" seems to be the theme this year.

Yes, but dreaming is so fun sometimes. Everyone is 0-0 now. Perhaps some reality will set in, but I fully expect a couple of surprises along the way (good surprises) and for the team to be competitive in most of the games. I think 13 or 14 wins would be a great season, particularly since everyone will be back next year.
