I like the looks of this team! There are a lot of really talented players that will be fighting for a starting spot and playing time. This year will look nothing like last year!
Are you guys at 13 scholarships for next year, and if so, who are the walk-ons on the roster?

I believe they are Ben DeWaard, Black Yackley and James Keller. I've also heard that Makenzie Casey is also a walk-on. I'm sure JackguyII knows a lot more about this than I do....
How many kids do you know that would give up basketball for a year to go home and be with their sick mother?
Not to be negative because maybe the kid really did go back hom to be with his sick mother. But the sick mother excuse is like saying your dog ate your homework. Oftentimes the sick mom excuse is just that, an excuse.
Having said that, I trust our coaching staff and their ability to motivate players to act like adults once they get to campus. Nagy's track record is full of wins, but also full of examples of him not putting up with any crap from players who don't want to keep their noses clean off the court. A couple of recent examples come to mind. I'm sure I don't need to expound to those who read this board. Sufficit to say coach Nagy has no problem with parting with players who can't keep out of trouble.
"You just stood their screaming. Fearing no one was listening to you. Hearing only what you wanna hear. Knowing only what you heard." Metallica
On the bison board they are talking about Andre Smith from NDSCS transfering. Any chance of the Jack's landing him instead of NDSU? If my count is right we should have two scholarships left to give out (unless someone wants to correct me). At 6'8" he would be a big help in the low post, where we don't have a lot of depth. I wasn't sure if we were going to sign any other players this season or not. It would be nice to sign another after the loss of green.
Ummmm... yeah, I would go ahead and take Ben DeWaard out of the line up, and guess that we'll sign another player. Not to be negative to him, but he walked on last minute when the iowa kid left last season, three days before midnight madness. He was a filler, and he played the minutes of one. Why do you think he didn't redshirt and keller did?
We still have one or two scholarships left based on that list.
(Walkons: Casey, Keller, Yackley, DeWard on that list.)
Looks like someone took your suggestion, ballz. Deward is not on the roster this year. They did not replace him though.

Very young, not very big, will have to make up alot with quickness and intelligents. A .500 record this year would be great for this team, I'm not counting on it. Give these guys a few more years and some strong recruiting classes and then we'll see.
We are here to add what we can to life, not get what we can from life. -Sir William Osler
We do not see things as they are, we see things as we are.
I see three names listed as forward/center. Two are freshman and one a transfer. Who is most likely to play the 5 position and will both of the 6'10" guys play this year or will one or both redshirt?
I would say Berte would be the man in the middle for the jacks this year. My starting lineup guess would be:
1- Cadwell/Frias
2- Holdren/Cadwell/Kleinjan
3- Holdren/Gilbert
4 - Beran
5- Berte
It seems we have a lot of guards who are all pretty young and inexperienced so i think we will see a lot of all of them including Hornby. The above five does't include Loney who will play a ton of minutes as well i am sure. I think the plan was for both of the 6-10 kids to redshirt, i had heard that Berte was a beast in the middle (especially defensively) so he should be fun to watch.

Jack 79- I agree completely with your potential starting lineup. I'm very anxious to see last years redshirts (Cadwell and Gilbert) on the floor and see what they can do. If we redshirt both of the 6'10 guys which I believe we will do then we will be very undersized and have some difficult matchup problems. We will be much more athletic and quicker than last year. It will be fun to see Engen and Bilitz our future version of the twin towers in 2006 with 20-25 more pounds of muscle. Our biggest guy off the bench will be Loney at 6'6.
Based on last year's players' performance and expectations of those coming in, I think the question marks are at the 1 spot and the 5 spot. The other three will be Holdren, Gilbert, Beran unless somebody comes in and beats one of them out.
At the point, I think it'll be Frias--you don't bring in an upper-class point guard to this team without intending to start him. Much more competition here at the point than at the center spot, though. I'd be very surprised however if we start a freshman (red-shirt or otherwise) against Rajon Rondo in Rupp Arena. That would be a lamb to the slaughter, unless we've got ourselves a freshman All-American candidate.
At center, Berte. I don't see either Engen or Bilitz red-shirting--we're too thin at the post position (and need to have Beran in the game at power forward to take some pressure off of him).
This year's team belongs to Beran and Holdren. Those two were the leading scorers on last year's team and the top returning rebounders this year. If the talent level surrounding those two has improved more than our schedule has stiffened, we will do better than 10-18.
Right now I'm predicting that a great season would be 17-12, a poor season 8-21. Likely somewhere in the middle.

Nagy has indicated he would most likely redshirt the two freshman centers. If they are not ready physically it would be a waste of a year of eligibility. However, with Joe Green's departure we are very thin in the big forward/center position. Maybe the one that seems more ready to play will get the nod and the other will redhsirt. I have seen Bilitz play and at 6'10 is very athletic, but rail thin!
