  • SDSU's Mingo wins Summit Championship

Congratulations to Megan Mingo, who today won the Summit League Women's Golf championship. She trailed by one stroke on the first day of the tourney, took a 3 stroke lead yesterday, and finished first by two strokes over a Denver golfer. Denver won the team championship with SDSU second. Way to go Jacks!

The Women had a fantastic season. 2nd in the Summit is pretty dang good. Only losing by 6 strokes when the 3rd place team was 33 strokes behind SDSU. Having 3 golfers in top 10 and 4th just missing top 10 (11th). Congrats to all.

Megan tied a Summit League record with a 69 on the first day and led wire-to-wire. She had a 3 stroke lead after each of the first two days.

They did have a really good season, currently ranked #69th (Golfweek Rankings) in the nation and will just miss the NCAA Regional field as an at-large team. The magic number on getting an at-large bid in women's golf this year is 55 according to Golfweek.

Their season was by far the most successful in the D1 era. 5 wins this year, 2 runner-ups and all tournaments they were in the top-5 outside of 1 event. Last year Denver beat SDSU by 52 strokes - this year it was a mere 6 strokes. This is the 3rd runner-up finish for the women's golf team in the SL tourney.

Congrats to the 3 seniors Megan Mingo (Yankton, SD), Hallie Getz (Pierre, SD) and Islamiah Fuad (Malaysia). They have helped elevate this program to new heights and they will be missed.

The golf team loses the players that finished 1st, 4th and 5th on the team in the Summit League tournament. That will be 3 of the 6 golfers that they have on the team. Having your 2nd and 3rd golfers back is a strong start (especially when they are both freshman) but they will need more than 2 golfers next season.
We will see how recruiting goes.
