Don't get me wrong, he is a great hire and will help in developing our QBs and WRs, but Meadows still calls the shots...and the plays.
Passing game coordinator is part of his title, he'll have control of that. My guess too is that he wouldn't have come back if he wasn't going to have some input into the offense as a whole.

Is this really true? Thought with Tiefentahler and others, we did.

No matter how we cut the pie, meaining who calls the plays, its going to be a better season and better coaching with Eric Eidness being aboard. I would be surprised if there are any personal differences between Eidness and Meadows, as they seem to be both fairly humble people who can work together. My guess is that Luke probably wished he would had Eric during the Montana game, as he probably would have had a different take or something Montana would never have figured out to get the ball back. Can Eidness walk on water? Damn near can.

Tiefenthaler is very fast. Also, Julian Wagner has been moved to WR. We've got some speed out there.
          Holy nutmeg!

Brandon Gant is also one of the faster players on the team. There will be a good mix next year of possession WR's, speed WR's, and quick slot WR's. It's just that there isn't very much game experience at the position.

Exactly, I'm not ready to hang my hat on our wideouts who have very, very little experience. Plus they have no size. All of them are about 5'8".

There's decent size at WR, if I were coach my rotation would look something like this

WR 1 - SO Aaron Rollin - [6'3" 210] Probably the most complete receiver, physical
-------- SR Justin Mitchell - [6'1" 190] Haven't seen much of besides spring games.

WR 2 - JR Brandon Gant - [5'10" 170] Physical freak who holds all of the WR combine records (Bench, Verticle, Shuttle, etc. etc.) Showed promise as a FR but didn't play last year. Has been speculated that he was going to transfer or that he wasn't getting along with the coaching staff
-------- FR Trevor Tiefenthaler - [5'11" 170] One of the Fastest kids on the team along with new WR Dom Wright. Looking for big things out of Trevor in the next 4 years.

Slot WR3 - SR Matt Hylland - [5'10" 175] Have always heard good things but he's just been stuck behind a good group of receivers
-------------SO Julian Wagner - [5'10" 175] Switching from CB, very fast & quick

                That leaves:
JR Brad Iverson [6'5" 190] Could see some time in goal line situations.
JR Teddy Shonka [6'2" 205] Physical WR, missed last year because of bad back. Might have gotten a medical redshirt and will only be a Sophmore.
SO Dan Schmidt [6'5" 190] Former Brookings player, good athlete.
JR Casey Cuppy [6'3" 195] I believe Casey is walk-on player.

Like I said earlier, there is alot of talent with our WR's it's just that we were stockpiled with upper classman the past two years so there isn't much game experience besides Rollin & Gant.

yeah, but this is different than not having speed. Speed you can't coach up.

You can't coach height up either. Ok, so we have some "fast" guys with a little experience, a couple with out any at all, and our best WR Rollins (who I love by the way; great hands, great body, great route running) who was run down by an offensive lineman from NDSU. (Tiefenthaler will most likely play the slot and catch balls underneath anyway) Again, I love our team. We'll see how these guys without any experience pan out. My whole point is that a new coach is not suddenly going to come in and make huge changes that everyone is hoping for. Guys still need to perform, Meadows still does the play calling. Cochart will catch more balls because he is a studd and the only proven guy we have.

I'm not sure what point you are trying to make. Aquiring Coach Eidsness has nothing to do with who is on our team right now it is all about adding a quality individual who has established himself as a great coach and a great person. Where is all this concern about the talent at the WR position coming from? Did you know JeRon was going to become the player he did? When Steffen got hurt should there have been wide-spread panic? I have little doubt the the passing game will be improved with the addition of Eric Eidsness regardless of the players on the roster.

My whole point (which has been long strung out along this thread) Jack, was that we shouldn't get all hot and bothered and think that since we have a new coach, now we are suddenly going to discover that a guy that lines up at the end of the O-Line can catch passes too. My point was that we will throw to the tight end more, but it will be out of necessity. And if no one else has concern over the lack of EXPERIENCE (I never said anything about talent as you say) than you are fooling yourselves. I think we will be fine. I"m just trying to give credit to Meadows, Moore, and Stig. They are smart people. If we need to throw to the tight end more, it will come from them...and Eidsness.

I don't really want to call you out, but you mentioned lack of talent in two separate posts in this thread:

I may have mentioned it, but I am not CONCERNED with the fact that I think we lack break away speed, or that we have 3 potential starters next year that are 5'8'-5'10". Those WR are great men, and they have big shoes to fill. I AM concerned with lack of experience. But that has nothing to do with my original post, or what I said about having a new coach who will suddenly turn our offense into a TE passing machine. I was making a point on why we will throw underneath to the TE more, thats all.

I appreciate the clarification and I have always respected your insight and appreciate what you contribute here. In no way did I intend to detract from the efforts of our current coaches. As it pertains to this topic I was only expressing my excitement regarding the addition of Coach Eidsness. I can't wait for the spring game.
