Re: Eric Eidsness new QB Coach

The more I think about this the more excited I get! Eric and his family will be great additions to the Jackrabbit family and the community of Brookings. I hope things work out as well as I expect they will and Eric remains a Jackrabbit for a long time.

This is the best signing of the year. Our young quarterbacks are very fortunate!

Think this was a case of recruits/players recruiting a coach? Chance to coach up some great QBs over the next five years, at least?

          The press release from GoJacks.

Looks to be a good hire.

No offense to Tim Tripplett who left to go coach with the Yotes, but you have to love that we replaced his spot with someone who is familiar with Jackrabbit football and who has experience as a head coach.

So now there is one coaching spot left right? WR Coach?
I wouldn't mind seeing them bring back Josh Davis to fill that spot.

Kudos to Stig for letting Eric get the experience of a lifetime and once again for bringing him back at the right time.

It falls in line with Stig's recruiting Chad Greenway. Give the young man a chance to aspire to new levels no one thought he was able to accomplish. Don't beat him down for trying it - let him fly. Welcome him home if opportunity presents itself down the road. Go Jacks!

Is anyone else excited to see the return of the ace formation, boot leg, in which the QB hits one of the tight ends dragging towards the sideline opposite of the play action? Coach Eidsness use to run that play multiple times a game and I can't recall a time when at least one of the tight ends weren't open (a lot of times both were)! Glad to have him back!

                    <hand raised high waiving>

Coach Eidsness definately knows how to use the TE. I know he'll bring a new dimension to the passing game, and keep me from asking the question "why the heck aren't they using the TE??"

When was the last time there was this excitement over an assistant coach? Not asking rhetorically, asking 'cause I don't know.

In my 18 years associated with the program there hasn't been any excitement like this. Granted, we're a small sampling of the excitement, but I would assume any player that Eric coached at SDSU, or any fan that cheered for the Jacks during his previous tenure, is feeling like we are at this moment. I've openly criticized on this board past "habits" of recycling former coaches and GA's within the program. Last night I sent a congratulations/thank you email to Stig over this hiring. Why? Because I firmly belive Eric will be a difference maker. I commented to a friend last night that I stongly believe had Eric been in this position this past fall SDSU beats Minnesota and Montana.

                            Go Jacks!!!

I for one thought it was really sad day, the day Eric left for the head coach at SMSU. Maybe it was because I got to ride in a golf cart with him for about 4 hours at Meadow Creek alum gathering in Volga. Eric shared a lot of stuff with me and how could not like him. I even found out the back ground of his dad, Lyle who played High school ball at Augstana Academy.

When Eric left, it made me wonder what if anything Eric was running from at SDSU. I suspect it was low pay mostly and maybe some tripidation about going D1, or was it the opportunity to be a head coach. Just before he left, I recall a brief conversation with Coach Stig about going D1, and even Coach Stig felt some concerns about the move, but that point in time has went and gone. Eric has those six years experience now as head coach and building a program from shambles to being the second winnest coach at SMSU, which might not be saying too much, but definitely points to progress that can help us at SDSU. If I am not mistaken SIU has two former head coaches on their staff, Bubba and Hedberg, and they seem to work together with the head man very well. They been beaten down enough as a D2 head coach that they back off when a ego clash is about to happen. I think Eric will be able to add this to SDSU, and will work well with Luke, Shannon Moore and others and will only strengthen the staff.

Yes one thing I enjoy is TE catching a short pass and advancing the ball 20 to 30 yards. We need this without a doubt and our TE's should catch them all.

Great hire! But how much of an impact will he really have on the offense and the passing game? Is Meadows still not Offensive Coord.? I think we are going to pass a lot more to the tight end this year, but not because we have a new coach. It will be because we don't have break away speed at the WR position. Don't get me wrong, he is a great hire and will help in developing our QBs and WRs, but Meadows still calls the shots...and the plays.
