  • Re: 2011 Recruiting List

TV has posted some news regarding players leaving and joining the team.

Two true freshmen are no longer with the SDSU football team as of spring semester: Running back Brad Tunge from Marion and offensive lineman Alex Smith from Scottsdale, Ariz. Both are still attending classes at the school.

In other football news, Burnsville's Cam Jones recently made his verbal to the Jackrabbits before ever setting foot on campus. That doesn't happen all the time. But it may have paid dividends for SDSU in the sense that Jones was already on board when he finally visited over the weekend and therefore may have been a solid secondary salesman.
"Talking to Cam - he's about the best recruiting I know," Blaine QB Eric Kline said.

I wish both Brad and Alex well in both of their future endeavors. But I am really getting intrigued with Cam Jones. How exciting to have a recruit commit before ever setting foot on campus. Having that combination of passion with the physical tools he has, and the experience of having played QB in high school. That is exciting. He could help out the passing game immensly with that size and ability to read defenses.

Brad Tunge will be back on the team shortly. He had a little issue with partying and i believe he has gotten that out of his system and has figured out what is important in his life. You will see him in spring ball.

Good news 2o1o, and good for this young man for getting squared away!

That's not a unique issue, with both football and non-football playing college students.

Neither of these two would be part of some of the underlying problems that were hinted at by TV and Kyle. So I assume those situations have been cleaned up...because that's all I can do is ASSUME, and you know what that word means.

Another verbal being reported by Terry V.

Tory Dibb from Brown Deer, Wis., said that he has given a verbal to SDSU. He projects as a DE/LB hybrid aka a spinner.

Highlight videos (Shows him mostly as an O-Lineman):

                  - Looks more like a DT, maybe G prospect to me.
                  - Brown Deer is an outer suburb north of Milwaukee

I watched it last night and thought the same thing. Doesn't stay low and seems slow. If he was a little bigger I could see DT. Luckily the coaches make these decisions and not me.

I worry about the foot quickness more than anything

That's why I was thinking he might transition to guard. I defiantly don't see him at the "Spinner" position or at LB.

There definitely isn't a whole lot of WOW! involved. I do not see him as a d-lineman, pad level is way too high, and doesn't have that huge motor that interior DT's need. He is a guard or tackle on the o-line. Great thing about kids like him, he will get a few years under his belt before he is expected to play. What I like about him is that he doesn't quit on the play, he is always down field on the blocks, and made a few blocks that sprung his RB for longer gains.

Our coaching staff has shown time after time that they can take players that are not highly recruited and turn them into all-conference type players that get invites to pro training camps. I trust that they don't offer scholarships to players that they don't have a plan for. Does that mean that they are right 100% of the time ? No, but I am confident they are better talent evaluators than most posters here, myself included.

Perhaps you would be if you were on the other end of a couple of those blocks. He moved pretty well relative to the other 21 guys on the field, IMHO
