Re: Let's talk about the game: SDSU at Montana

When at the 5 yard line: Run, Run, Run & Score, or Kick the Field Goal. I know seems like a good logic. You think as conservative as the play calling is normally, that we would follow this line of thinking.

Now I would also think when we are at our own 5 yard line we could follow this line of thinking as well with an approach such as this: Run, Run, Run make a 1st Down, repeat. Until we make it to oh I don't know the 30 or 35.

Now we all know the the little outside flat passes, etc. are pick 6 generators. Let's not do those especially in our own side of the field.

That is all I want to see happen on offense and the defense will do the rest for us.

Stu says Montana too intimidating a place for SDSU, we will have playoff jitters. TOB will choke and Montana will win 34-17. Man, I love that guy.

Oh yeah, he also said 3 of NDSU's recruits called him this week and they are all thinking about heading to USD.

He really did say one of these things on KWSN today.

Good, he historically underestimates the Jacks, so that bodes well for a close game if not an upset.

Re: Let's talk about the game: SDSU at Montana

Why hello from MT... looks like it's going to be a good match-up for both teams on Saturday. Strengths from MT (that aren't just by statistics, but from watching all their games) would be their ability to equally distribute the run/pass game. Similarly, MT plays better in the 2nd half so I guess that works for both teams haha. On special teams, Marc Mariani is pretty amazing to watch running back punts. He likely has more than a couple run-backs for TD's and is also one of our star WR's. Chase Reynolds, our RB ran more last year, but already has over 1000 yds. this season too. Expect of course, to see him start and if needed, will be replaced by Thomas Brooks-Fletcher, who is also quite talented. How I see it, in "school letter-grading", our Offense is about a B+ (including both good and bad days), while Defense is C+/B-... and reading about your O and D, yours would maybe equal Defense A- while Offense is C+... haha, yes I can be very scientific.
We use two QB's because the coach kind of didn't choose a starter at the beginning of the season and ended up just using both. Roper has improved a lot from his beginning and Selle is pretty accurate and can avoid sacks... most of the time (he'll probably need to do a lot of "avoiding" Saturday). So yeah, it's pretty hard to compare schools because our only common opponent was Cal Poly, who we beat, but that was a loss to you because of a QB injury, so who knows. All I know is that I'm not underestimating SDSU at all, they seem like a solid team.

I forgot to mention both team's FG kickers seem to be the kind make people say, "Oh no.. I'm leaving the room, I can't watch"

Stu Whitney? Arrgghhh. That guy should not be allowed to talk about sports. I understand that he thinks his knowledge and expertise is way above where he found himself in life and he is not truly happy covering sports in SD, so I say leave...geez he's been with that company how long and he can't find his way out of SD? And not once will he ever eat crow. Jacks win on Saturday? He wouldn't say word one except maybe we could have seen it here if State had better facilities(really Capt. Obvious?). He still can't eat crow over the whole Division 1 move ("OK I was wrong for the most part it has been a success"). I don't want him to kiss a $ $ but I at least want him to recognize a tad the accomplishments (and sacrifices) made by these very hard working young men and women who took on a challenge that Stu has never even thought about or had the capability of doing. Wrong thread I know, but he chaps me.

There's a money statement. The missed 26 yarder against the Gophers still rolls through my head and makes me cringe. If the Jacks would have had a couple of their kickers in the last 10 years, they probably would have beat the Gophers. And ours was preseason all-conference.

This is an interesting aspect of the game as the team who's kicker comes through may be on the right end of the score at the end. Anything under 45 yards can't be missed Saturday.

Spoke to two players today. They're confident and excited for the challenge of playing the #1 seed at their place.

From what I've read at egriz and elsewhere, the game probably won't be a sellout (Thanksgiving break) so not quite the crazy atmosphere we've seen before in Missoula. Griz fans seem OK to me. They're respectful of SDSU and are talking about how this isn't the first round matchup they necessarily wanted.

What do you think? Predictions? Things to look for?
I'm in Virginia for the weekend and looked up tickets for Richmond -Elon and William and Mary-Weber St. still plenty of tickets for both good seats too. May go to the Elon, Richmond game.
