Does Brewster talk too much? Any Gopher fan would agree. Was the "guaranteeing a win" meme offered by Barreiro and others fair? No.

Is that too complicated for you?

      Sorry, its facts!

Agree with you on one thing. Facts are important.

So did two ex-Bison get cut from NFL teams yesterday? Because at first you said 8.

      Please name the 6.

Hopefully none of the 6 (or is it 4 now) are covering punts or trying to tackle guys like Koenig.

Fact is NDSU lost to the 2007 SDSU team, the 2008 SDSU team, and the 2009 SDSU team. Those are the facts.

Wow some of you guys are getting pretty testy! Hope your players have that fire

Gopher fans have all sorts of differing views on Brewster.

Some would argue Mason said nothing, called rivalry games "trinket games", etc. Never promoted the U. That bothered many. Some didnt mind.

Others dont like that Brew has high expectations, talks about being great again, etc. That irks some people too (and others applaud it).

As far as I can tell (and I am a Gopher fan and follow them closely) this is the only time Brew has publicly "guaranteed" a win.

I have no problem with a guy wanting to be good, expecting to be good, and saying so.

The point is, Brewster didn't guarantee a win. He guaranteed that his team would play well. He talks too much, but in that instance, people (including you) unfairly characterized his statement as guaranteeing a win. Barreiro has played that statement about 500 times this week, mocking Brewster for saying such a thing before playing SDSU. I think that's unfair.

What's not unfair is comparing him to Jim Wacker, a guy who talked a big game but whose coaching chops didn't nearly match his mouth. I'm certainly not the first person to make that analogy, or the 100th, or the 1,000th. I think a lot of Gopher fans (and as an Iowa Ph.D., I follow the Big Ten closely) have had it with his special combination of bravado and bad coaching.

Re: What are your hopes for the Gophers game?

The Gophers are paying money, a lot of money, to have the Jackrabbits play a game in their new stadium with the expectation that the Gophers will win. In some circles this is referred to has a "guarantee game". I have just always assumed that meant a guaranteed win for the team paying the money. Perhaps, it just means that the game is guaranteed to be played but I don't think so. Follow me here?

So, logically, I think we can safely assume that the players, coaches, and admin understand that said Gophers are expected to defeat said Jackrabbits. I don't think anybody is on the take or running an inside game here, but I wouldn't put anything past the U of Minn given the apparent lack of character in recent recruits.

So, all that said, if things go as most everyone who is willing to admit it expects, the Gophers win this one on the scoreboard and the Jackrabbits leave with a hefty check, minimal wounds, and a huge conference finale next weekend. That is, unless, Brewster or one of his players has big money on the Jackrabbits then we might see a closer game and a cover. No way they'd take us straight-up and cost themselves a bowl bid.

Trust me when I say this, the amount of money the University is paying state is very small to them. At that place, they define the words " big money ".

This stuff is eerily similiar to the "facts" that our old banned friend Lakesbison is putting up on Gopherhole.com ? It's pretty humorous,he's trying to act like a big Gopher fan by ripping the Jacks, and everyone there is telling him to get lost !

No, I'm pretty sure those words are defined at Harvard, Stanford, Princeton, Yale, and the University of Chicago.

BTW: U of M sure ain't gettin' their money's worth out of their athletic dollar.

Okay, I usually don't respond to posts, but your last comment has forced me to. Firstly, don't ever compare private universities with public universities, it's like comparing apples with oranges, as they're both fruits, but totally different kinds.

http://www.academic.umn.edu/accounta...kings_eag.html ... Take a look at that, and you will see what I mean when I say "big money".

Secondly, your comment on the U not getting their "money's worth out of their athletic dollar" is total ludicris. Both their volleyball and men's basketball teams are ranked nationally. Their women's hockey team is currently ranked third nationally, while their men's hockey team has the most NHL draft picks out of any university in the country. Their baseball team made it to the NCAA tournament last year, and their wrestling team is what one would call, a power house.

Just because their football program is sub-par, DON'T JUDGE the entire athletics program based off of that. Respectfully, I hope you see my point accordingly.

I realize that #2 takes a significant beating because of #3. This was found out long ago in college when people thought "the Dr." would take care of the ol' common cold. Ya...not so much. Remember, I'm hoping.

And my vehicle is staying in SD, so no worries there.

I know a ton of Jacks fan going to the game from all over, so it should be a fun time regardless of the outcome,

I must admit I consult with "the Dr." you are referring to on proper occasion. I am looking forward to a great time and hope the weather is as nice as they predict. We will have a large group of Jackrabbit fans in lot #33 just north and west of TCF. I'll have the flag pole extended with 2 Jackrabbit flags for all to see. The truest of fans are attending the game in Brookings tonight and then heading over after that, I can't pull that double off. Props to them.
