Don't do that or you will never get married. I have been out of school almost 30 years and I still regress to how I acted in college when I go back (well not quite as bad, but still, at my age...).

She isn't an SDSU grad so she doesn't understand how much this means.

Be honest with her. Tell her your going to miss her. Enjoy the game. Go Jacks.

          Re: Biggest Game Ever!!!

here is the line I would use.... (of course it could explain why I can't keep a gf for more then a couple of months)

"honey, I could go to the wedding with you, but you know I really won't be there, I would really like to go to this game, I got friends playing and I would really appreciate it"

and then go on about how you don't know any of her friends and think that she would have more fun with out you....

make it sound like 1st- it won't be fun with you there, and 2 she is doing a favor by letting you go....

            Re: Biggest Game Ever!!!

            Try this one:

Honey, I would rather be at the game thinking about you, wishing I was with you than be at the wedding thinking about the game, wishing I was at the game.

                Yep:

"The bride's coming down the aisle"

                "The bridesmaids dresses are hideous"

"The junior bride just tripped on the carpet"

                etc.

                  Re: Biggest Game Ever!!!

My wife and I (heck, entire family for that matter) have a very simple understanding: If the Jacks have a home game, don't expect me to be anywhere other than Brookings (except for my own childrens' events) unless there is an immediate family emergency. Weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, bar mitzvah's, graduations, etc. do not fall into the immediate family emergency clause in our understanding

                      Re: Biggest Game Ever!!!

Short story. Several years ago my sister scheduled her second wedding in Sioux Falls the Saturday of the 1st home football game. The wedding was to start at 5:30 PM and in the days before lights at Coughlin the game started at 1:00.

I talked three brothers, two brother in-law and three nephews into going to the game with me that Saturday. It was a wonderful time the sun was warm and the Jacks won.

We showed up at the church just over 30 minutes before the wedding. Now no one in the family ever schedules an event during football season without consulting a calendar.

I should have done that this year. I scheduled my wedding the day of the Jack-Gophers game. Wedding isn't until 4pm so I might be able to catch some of it. At least get updates in between pictures.

                          Re: Biggest Game Ever!!!

If we win this week, it will push the Jacks to 8-1. The last time the Jacks posted 8 wins or more was 1999 and before that was 1979.

Other years of 8 or more wins:

                          1926
                          1928
                          1950
                          1951
                          1961
                          1963
                          1979
                          1999
                          2009?

Here's to hoping that everyone we play the rest of the year "beats themselves", so we don't have to.So much easier that way.

You could just try breaking down in gutwrenching, sobbing tears.

"B-b-baby, I just love the Jackrabbits so m-m-much! You know I l-l-love you m-m-more, b-b-but our relationship is about m-m-making each other is happy. I d-d-don't want to m-m-miss the game for a w-w-wedding. It would m-m-make me really happy to g-g-go, and I would make it up to you l-l-later. P-p-please?"

                              Guaranteed to work.

Not good planning but, there's still a way to follow the game. Post your cell-phone number on this message board and we'll all send you text messages starting a 2:00 and continuing until the game is concluded. If you have your phone on vibrate, your spouse-to-be will think you have an electric shaver in your pocket.

Seriously, I was at a wedding during the overtimes of last year's McNeese game and I was receiving text messages. I cheered at the appropriate times and cried at the appropriate time.
