    Re: Danny Batten's Pro Chances

ESPN article by Len Pasquarelli about an invite to the combine not being everything when it comes to being drafted or having a productive career. Specifically lists Danny as one of 6 players to still have a chance at being drafted without the combine.

Danny is a good blue collar guy who will probably be drafted and be a backup perhaps the rest of his life. I like to see him be the next chad greenway but hes not quite that caliber player...look for perhaps derek domino or general sargent to be at least considered by teams as well

I'm wishing danny the best of luck in the upcoming draft...it'll be exciting to watch and see if his name gets called...on another note, when was the last time an sdsu football player was actually drafted? just curious

I think you mixed General Parnell and Clint Sargent to make General Sargent. Pretty cool name none the less.

Next year will probably be the best year for NFL prospects SDSU has ever had. I'm not saying all of the 8 guys listed below will get signed, but I think they all have a reasonable shot if they have good senior years.

              Possibly Drafted
TE Colin Cochart - Best chance to get drafted out of the 2011 class. Has been on scout's radar since sophmore season.
LB Derek Domino - Could be on Buck Buchanan list and could be the top LB in FCS next year. Has the size and speed.
SS Conrad Kjerstad - Could also be on Buck Buchanan list. A true gamer. Plays both pass and run well.

              Free Agent Signings
CB General Parnell - Has the tools and the speed as long as he recovers from knee surgery.
DE Tony Thompson - Has the size/strength the NFL looks for, not sure about the production or speed
CB Cole Brodie - Could be a sleeper, one of the faster players for SDSU.
HB Kyle Minett - Could be on Payton List next year. Probably doesn't have the speed/quickness for NFL but will get a look based on production/toughness
C Ryan McKnight - Beat out some good centers for 1st team all-conference this past season

Scott was with the Cheifs but wasn't drafted. Don't think we can count Todd as he graduated from St. Cloud. I think you gotta go a bit further back to find a guy drafted. I don't think Doug Miller, Adam Timmerman or Steve Heiden were drafted either.

This link shows all the SDSU players that were drafted.

                    http://www.nfl.com/draft/history/ful...=0&type=school

Surprised to see Heiden picked in the 3rd round and also to see Boden picked as the #13 pick overall in 1975.

Also interesting to see that 3 players were drafted in the 90's, but none in the 00's.

1999 3 69 Steve Heiden TE San Diego Chargers

See there ya go. I would have sworn all were free agents. Especially because I was around when Doug and Adam played and I followed their pro careers closely (but apparently not too close).

                          From JbScouting.com

5 Non-Combine Prospects to Watch in March and April

                          1. DE Danny Batten, South Dakota State
Batten created quite a buzz in El Paso after playing very well at inside linebacker and could be moved to the position when all is said and done. His production (83 tackles, 15.5 TFL, 10 sacks) in 2009, his motor, and athletic ability make him a prospect that we believe will be successful in the NFL. His 40 time is expected to be in the high 4.5 or low 4.6 range at his pro day and his bench reps, broad jump, and vertical should all be solid and boost his stock late in the process. Despite not getting a combine invite we firmly believe he will ultimately be drafted.

For the record we know who his private workouts are with but we can not say which teams they are as the one that has not leaked out has said if it does leak they will cancel it. Those who want to see Danny do well can understand why some of us are keeping our mouths shut. However, We will tell who brought him in once the workouts are completed.
