    Re: Danny Batten's Pro Chances

Danny is on KWSN 1230 Sioux Falls right now. Talked about the Montana game, Texas vs Nation All-Star game.

Said that most of the scouts are looking at him as a MLB and got a lot of good feedback. Cowboys scout said they are defiantly looking at him at MLB. Says the all-star game went really well.

Said that MLB feels like his natural position and he played that in high school. Likes that he would get to be at his natural weight of 245-250, instead of dealing with the struggle to add weight and keep it on.

Welcome to the board JBS! Nice service, and one that allows athletes to share their perspectives. Look forward to more SDSU athletes using your scouting to share.

Thanks! We just wanted to come over and share links on Batten as soon as we post them. Batten's next journal is coming next Monday night.

Batten's agent XAM Sports tweeted this today:

The Chicago Bears have scheduled a formal team visit with draft prospect Danny Batten (DE/LB, South Dakota State) in late March.

                    Re: Danny Batten's Pro Chances

                    Rotoworld had this to say:

South Dakota State DE Danny Batten

The Missouri Valley's co-Defensive Player of the Year along with Ruffin in '09, Batten impressively ranked second on the Jackrabbits in tackles from his defensive end slot. He also chipped in a club-high 17 tackles for loss and nine sacks. A former first-team all-state rugby player in Arizona, Batten went on to start all four years at SDSU, finishing his career with 52.5 TFLs. The 6'2/250-pound rusher was successfully tried at both outside and inside linebacker during February's Texas vs. Nation all-star event. Also asked to drop into coverage frequently after slimming down to the 245-pound range in 2009, Batten will appeal to teams that value versatility, like the Patriots.

Draft Projection: Mid-sixth to seventh round

He actually mentioned that in his journal with us last week. Don't be surprised if he has more visits!

                        Re: Danny Batten's Pro Chances

                        This would be nice.
The Bears have identified another player from the Texas vs. The Nation game that they would like to take a closer look at.

The club is expected to bring in South Dakota State's Danny Batten for a pre-draft visit to Halas Hall in late March. Batten projects as a defensive end for the Bears, but may be considered as a linebacker by some teams, and excelled in some linebacker drills during the week of practice leading up to the game in El Paso, Texas.

Batten, 6-4, 252 pounds, started as a freshman at South Dakota State and is the kind of undersized edge rusher the Bears like. Defensive end is a critical area of need for the Bears and they likely will add multiple players at the position through the draft and free agency.

The Bears always like to have a developmental player at the position and Batten fits that profile, although the Bears thought the same thing about Mark Anderson in 2006 and he set a rookie franchise record with 12 sacks.

Like offensive tackle Nic Richmond, whom the Tribune reported Wednesday will come for a pre-draft visit, Batten is not going to the combine. Batten, who is from the Phoenix area, might conduct his pro day at Arizona State instead of doing it at South Dakota State.

Teams are allowed a maximum of 30 pre-draft visits. Typically, the Bears use their visits on players not at the combine in order to get medical information on them. They consider this pool of players for late-round draft picks and free agency.
