Maybe they'll come up with some new traditions. I think the tunnel for the team is a good one.

Please tell me they sang "The Fireman Song"... that was one of my favorite parts of being in the Pride.

They tried to, but the crowd was too loud and there was too much going on in the game for anyone to hear them.

Said it before and I'll say it again- the Fireman Song needs to die- has absolutely nothing to do with the game -and takes away from it in my opinion. As someone said, lets have some new traditions. If I had to guess it goes back to a time when we were not a quality team, like we are now, and the band came up with something to amuse themselves and some of the crowd when the game(s) was/were no longer interesting.

            I agree.

I appreciated how into the game Dr. Peterson and the band were on Saturday. It looked like they were having fun. Everything they did added to the atmosphere.

I also agree. If they want to chant something, come up with a football chant.

And let's be honest. For many, many years SDSU sported some pretty average football teams. But that band has been exceptional from the start. It's given SDSU a lot of visibility in the state and region. Every school in the old NCC and our new conference would kill for a band like that to augment their football gameday experience.
This does recap the past at SDSU. But its also fair to say that since 1963 our average football team has been the result of adding sports and following TitleIX. SDSU has now 22 sports and except for maybe golf, these sports have no revenue coming in and have expenses. I dont know how many NDSU whoppings I sat through and wondered what our budget number for football was and were we going to increase our budget?

Going D1 forced us to take a bigger and better interest in football than we did in the past.

I believe NDSU has still only 14 total sports or maybe there is more, but their football budget was one of the biggest in D2 because they had the ticket revenue and less other sports to support with the football revenue.

It has irked me that some SDSU fans have come for the band performance and leave after the Pride has done their thing for the day. I often thought in my mind maybe we should just have a band concert and play football at intermission.

As you can tell I am not a musician and I often thought McKinney was the tail wagging the dog at SDSU. Well thats all in the past. I do appreciate the band, but appreciate the football team much more.

Why does everything that happens at the game have to do with the game?

Sausage races at Miller Park, God Bless America at Yankee Stadium II, t-shirt launching at almost every venue, ANY half-time show.

The Fireman song is a fun college thing. I say let the college kids keep their 'clean' song.

All of the things you brought up are done in-between innings or during time-outs, not while plays are happening on the field or court. If the fireman song were done during a time-out or definite break in the action it wouldn't be so bad.

I would rather have the band stay and sing songs during the game than leave before the game is over like many of the fans did.

Ever been to an NBA game? I swear you could go to a game and be entertained from tip to horn and never watch the court.

That being said, the band is a great asset to the atmosphere of game day and are very vocal and into things. It would be nice if they could come up with something a bit more football/school oriented. Right now they do the boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, FIRST DOWN! That is an example of the band having fun and enhancing the gameday experience.

Heck, if they want to sing or chant, sing "The Yellow and Blue". That would be absolutely awesome, and eventually the rest of the stadium might join in. If that wouldn't give you goosebumps, I don't know what would.

Haven't we talked in other threads about how we wish people were more into the game and created more of a home field advantage for our football team? IMO the fireman song (nor anything else done JUST to entertain) does neither if done during the action. I enjoy the band playing on the field before the game, in the stands during the game and the first down the first down thing, etc. How about coming up with something to get the crowd excited/loud on defensive third/fourth downs?
I have nothing against the band or any current or former members of it. They have been and will continue to be a great asset to the university.

Kinda nice to have the biggest complaint about the first game revolve around what the band did/should have done, isn't it?

Would the whole band fit in the bleachers on the south end? I think the whole stadium would hear them better down there. If you wanted to watch them you could and you can watch the game, too. I'd either watch the reply or them just below if they were on that end.
I still think the old march in was better. I think the only people who said something are the ones who complain. It works that way quite often.
I just hope we don't have too many teams run the no-huddle. I like the band into it but when they are snapping the ball, I don't like that.
