Re: 2010 Football Recruiting List
every coach has a different strategy when it comes to recruiting, some like to get verbals from a main core early and let those names recruit others in the area, others like to wait out and try to get guys who either because of injury or whatever reason were passed up by the BCS schools who they thought they had a real chance of getting an offer from.... both can work, both can fail, in the end it is what you do with the players in the end that counts....
The Bison have beat the JAcks for the majority of the recruits they both have targeted for the past how many years? yet the Jacks have won the past 3 matchups....

Regarding Dudzik, per the Bison media blog the Jacks had offered him a full ride.
But in the end, I don't know that Bohl's demonstrated any real recruiting ability; and if NDSU landed a star in Dudzik at the expense of a dozen flameouts in their 18 early commits, well, that's just more of the same.
There are some Bison fans that are celebrating a victory over SDSU in this recruiting battle. Perhaps we can mock up a play-doh or papier mache marker trophy and send it to them.
A few are also hallucinating about Florida bowl appearances once they go BCS, too, so I wouldn't worry too much about responding.

Re: 2010 Football Recruiting List
Not surprised that they will try to make every recruit or even the recruiting battle a victory. It will be a few years to see how well each class pans out. If we look at the last few years I am not to worried about the recruiting numbers right now. Let them have there party thinking they have finally turned the corner back but in a few years we will know who still is getting the better recruits.

Re: 2010 Football Recruiting List
What in particular puzzles me about NDSU is that they found one good Steve Walker who was a very good QB. Why have they not been able to find more QB's like him? Is Bohl a little uncertain about his offensive, which seems to be very close to what SDSU runs? In other words would he want to shift to something else? It makes me wonder and the back up to Mertens seemed to struggle at times in the last few games.

He made a decision that he thought was best for him. NDSU was able to give him what SDSU couldn't. Best of luck to him. I hope he loses 4 games his entire career.

Re: 2010 Football Recruiting List
All I know is there are a lot of good football players in High School and Junior Colleges that are just beginning to realize their dream of earning a scholarship and playing for their favorite FBS team is not going to happen. SDSU is in a much better position than our friends up north to help those young men find a home. I'm sure there are a few of those players who have verbally committed to NDSU that our coaching staff would like to have had, but I think our patience will be rewarded in February.

ESPN thinks he is a little short but a good runner and could fit an option or spread offense, we are not an option or spread team. I wonder how much interest we really had. Best of luck to him. Anyone heard any news about SDSU recruits?
As for this class, who knows until they step on the field.

They've had a couple down years but it looks like they're going to get back to where they were. I have a hard time believing with the coaching turnover they've had the past couple of years that they are getting the guys in that one would normally expect of NDSU. How many of those 18 did SDSU legitimately have their sites on? Or any other MVC school for that matter? If NDSU is getting players over the likes of UND, USD, or NSIC schools, then I would say let them have 'em.
The real tell comes in February when all of the papers are signed. If we're questioning SDSU's recruiting class at that point over NDSU's then the discussions can begin.
I think the fact that SDSU had as many as 18 seniors this year tells a great deal about who are recruits really were four years ago. I suspect NDSU has had it's share of departures long before graduation, and the coaching changes could affect things.

Re: 2010 Football Recruiting List
TV also stated that Ft Scott was the #2 JUCO in the country and that Bowers led the team in sacks.
I see this addition similar to when the Jacks added Jason Bonwell a couple years ago. This puts our DE rotation at Steffen, Thompson, & Bowers.
I wonder if there is any interest in moving Thompson inside to DT since he is up around 270.
You can than have a 3 man rotation of JR Steffen, JR Bowers, & JR Wood at DE and SR Thompson, SR Basham, & SR Fischer at DT. That would be a pretty solid D-Line.
