He would most likely be redshirted next fall. He has quite a few other schools that he has shown some interest in as well.

Here's something to chew on: Coaches can't talk about verbal commits before they sign. So how'd this Dudzik guy know how great NDSU's class is? He must've had to do some research on his own, otherwise, the NDSU coaches may have gotten themselves into some trouble.
They can't comment to the media and general public - I don't know that it prohibits talking about it to other recruits.

Top it all off he runs a 4.5 forty, so he has the athletic ability to go along with the effort. Barring injury, I just don't see how this kid wouldn't pan out, and maybe even be something special. Hope he enjoys his visit on the 2nd of January so much that he'd like to stick around for another 4 to 5 years.

I still think it was just a recruit trying to make a name by taking a shot at the rival school....but you do make a good point the article says coach whatever said we have 18 commitments and the Jacks only have 1-2 commitments.... now I think the coaches are allowed to say they have verbal's they just can't comment on who they are.... wouldn't be surprised if the coach at least gets a call from the AD....

I'll guess that NDSU has some good recruits and more than its proportionate share of mediocrity among its 18 verbals (or whatever the total is now), given the Bison's apparent emphasis on getting early commits. It kind of reminds me of the years when some D-II and NAIA schools in the region would proudly announce signing classes of about 35 players – many of whom turned out to be students who didn't get any athletic scholarship money and would be fortunate to make the team and actually play in a game. Obviously, quality is what matters here. Hopefully, SDSU's patience pays off and is not just tardiness.

Or it could just be one of those things where you take a shot at the rival school after committing..... and since he probably couldn't take a shot at their record figured he could take a shot at the recruiting....

I would add the newspaper quotes from Troy Wolters from a year ago as well. Dealing with the media is a learned skill, and it is difficult sometimes to leave well enough alone. A good reporter will always ask why, and be quiet long enough to allow the interviewee to keep talking.

I'm still excited, and confident, to see what recruits the coaching staff will bring in. We've been working some competitive areas in Arizona, Calli, & MO/KA/OK. I have a feeling the staff is really looking for those extra level players and will be reeling in some impressive players. We already have two recruits who both look to be excellent additions. Statistically the best QB in South Dakota history and a DE who led his team, #2 JUCO team in the nation, in sacks.

Not that it is yet to the level of Mariani but Conrad Kjerstad was a walk on as was all conference center Ryan McNight.

These guys most of the time are too small for the FBS schools to look at, but are blazing fast small guys that make teams pull their hair out. *ahem, cough...SDSU.

They said during the title game Mariani was a walk-on. Good lord, that guy turned into an all-american. Talk about a find.

SDSU had this guy. Maybe not as small as those others, but Jaron Harris was raw coming out of high school. He had only played football for a couple of years which may have turned off bigger schools, but he was blazing fast and that raw talent that SDSU saw and turned into the best receiver we've seen in a Jacks uniform in some time.

Maybe Trevor Tiefenthaler is that guy. Keep looking for others. These guys can obviously be diamonds in the rough for FCS schools.
SDSU has always been good at finding "those guys". Not sure if it's harder to bring them in now than it was in the DII days or not. I would assume though that in the coming years you'll see a player or two that was a walk on turn into an All-American at SDSU. Has happened before, and it will keep happening. Just hope they are true difference makers the like of Mariani.
