I had heard Syrovatka but I don't even know who Tuschen is....

starting to get a little nervous, signing day is 15 days away and all what Stig has for commits are locals and JuCo's.....

Syrovatka already has a great kicker last name.

Heck. That's probably how he got the job.

He shows up, like, say 3rd grade, and the coach is looking at the sign up sheet:

"Johnson, Nelson, Smith, Williams, Thomas, Anderson, Syrot- uh Siree-, uh, how do you pronounce your name kid?"

      "Seerovatka, coach"

      "Sirrro---"

      "Seero"

"Seerovakta---uh, say, you play soccer right? Why don't you go grab that kicking tee"

            Eric Tuschen

            He's a 6'4" 220 Defensive End, was all-state this year.... Don't know if he is a preferred walk-on or a scholarship....

Justin Syrovatka- K http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=4538812 video of him

The Argus Leader stated Syrovatka is a preferred walk on and didn't mention anything about a scholarship on Tuschen except that he had an offer from USD. Tv mentioned Tuschen runs a sub 4.6 40 and benches 300

                Syrovatka's ESPN write-up:

Syrovatka is an explosive kicker. He has had a couple outstanding camps with Kohl's. His FG approach has become more refined and his KOs can be timed over four seconds. He is very competitive and trains hard to refine his technique. He should play at a high-level college after his senior year.

TV's story in the Argus Leader and/or his blog mention that Tuschen "also had a scholarship offer" from USD and had talked walk-on opportunities with Minnesota. Tuschen is the best player at his position in the state, according to TV's blog.
From his high school coach, Kim Nelson: "Sometimes he'd get off a block and run down a running back that normally would run away from a defensive lineman. We saw some things that make you shake your head and go, woah."

Looks like we can add two more guys to the verbals list!

Terry reporting that two Sioux Falls Roosevelt players have given their committments to the Jackrabbit football program.

Finally, some football recruits to discuss:

SDSU got two verbals from Roosevelt High on Monday. Eric Tuschen is a 6-foot-5, 230-pound defensive end. He started for two years, but blew up as a senior after putting on 30 pounds. He runs a sub-4.6 40 and benches 300. Riders coach Kim Nelson believes that Tuschen, who was shown zero interest by colleges as a junior, was the best player at his position in the state this year.
"He did some freaky things," Nelson said. "Sometimes he'd get off a block and run down a running back that normally would run away from a defensive lineman. We saw some things that make you shake your head and go, woah."
Tuschen said that he had a full-ride offer from USD, expected an offer to come from Augustana and was talking walk-on opportunities with Minnesota. But he chose SDSU because of the coaches, the atmopshere, the success and his ties to former prep teammates like WR Brad Iverson and LB Jake Weiss.

The other addition from the west side of Sioux Falls is Justin Syrovatka. The senior is ranked 52nd at his position by ESPN.com with a grade of 71 and two stars. He received that score based largely on his showing at a Kohl's kicking camp. Syrovatka started for Roosevelt for three years, but missed much of his senior season due to an ankle sprain that he suffered while playing cornerback. In other words, he's athletic. Nelson believes that he can handle field-goals - with a current range of about 50 yards - and kickoff duties. In addition to tallying touchbacks at a 70-percent clip, he excels in on-side situations and can use either foot to do so.
"He's got a great leg and he has great confidence and will be very successful as a college kicker because he really thrives under pressure," Nelson said. "He's been working hard to get that opportunity and here it is for him."
Syrovatka, also a soccer player, said that he will be a walk-on for one year at SDSU with a chance to earn a scholarship after that. He said USD invited him to compete for a scholarship with another freshman kicker - the winner would get the money and the other would redshirt - and that he also had talks with NDSU and Northern State.
"SDSU was my first visit, and after I was on the visit I just knew that's where I was supposed to be," he said.
