    Re: 2010 Football Recruiting List

On an official visit are coaches allowed to work recruits out at all?

    Agreed Kemo!

The kid still sounds fast. He ran a 4.53 using laser timing while recovering from his hammy injury. That was at the Scout.com combine and using laser timing apparantly takes out the human factor and reaction time errors. At the NFL combine last year, only 4 safeties and 6 corners ran faster times. The fastest was Chris Clemons from Clemson who ran a 4.41. The fastest time at the combine was 4.30 seconds and that earned Darrius Heywood-Bey the top WR draft pick over Michael Crabtree. (Four RB's and 20 WR's broke 4.5 seconds.)

To me, the bigger issue is his size and vertical jump. While 5' 10" is not tiny, combine that with a 26" vertical and he may have difficulty with bigger receivers. My son is not athletic and he can do 23". A good training program would likely be able to improve that towards 30".

If this kid has the instincts for the game, his speed and grades lead me to feel this kid has significant potential.

I'm more interested in the fact that he consistently ran down ball carriers from behind (without angles, from across the field) in his highlight video rather than his reported 40 time. That should tell you that the kid is fast in pads on the football field.

I've always wondered why they don't record football players speed numbers while they are wearing their pads. It would make sense at the combines to have the player do the shuttle runs and 40 times in full pads so they can get an accurate on the field time.

It doesn't matter much if a 5-8 175 lb running back runs a 4.3, because of his size he'll probably loose more speed than a 5-10 210 running back when they put the pads on.

I agree that their is probably more "rumor" than fact in that time. You won't find too many high school juniors who run in the 4.3's and aren't going to a BCS school.
Agreed- 4.3 is so fast. Carry that kind of speed to the football field and we're talking something very special
