  • Re: 2009 Recruiting Class

It looks like we can take the following recruits off of our "showing interest" list, as they've verbally committed elsewhere:

Ryan Givens - RB - Riverside, WI - Illinois State

Bobby Ollman - DB - Homestead HS, WI - NDSU

Scott Criss - OL - Omaha, NE - Wyoming

I admit, I can't get enough of the recruiting stuff.

KUlawJack, I hope you are right. But none of this precludes a signing-day-eve call from a certain program to the south offering a walk-on, right?
It would be reasonable to assume that this certain program to the south did what it did because it recognized a need at a position late; an educated guess could surmise that they got a late turn down they didn't expect, and so they could make a hard sell at the 11th hour with something of a straight face. The recruit ended up playing for them this year, as previous posters have pointed out, which says a lot about the quality of athletic talent Jacks are recruiting.
Bigger picture, though, is that 11th hour walk-on defections aside, it is encouraging that the Jacks are building a reputation as a scholar-athlete/character counts program. If it comes down to potentially riding pine in Lincoln or playing a pretty good caliber of ball AND getting a world class education in pharmacy or engineering or journalism or geography, etc., - with coaches that view sport as a doorway to life and not the pinnacle of life - it's easy to like Jacks' chances in most situations.

Read the article right under Bobby Ollman. Seems like this kid wants to come to State.

Maybe he did, but it seems he is making his decision to either walk on at UW-Madison or Illinois State.

Edit: We are talking about Ethan Hemer, not Ollman. Just trying to avoid confusion.

I know the ultimate decision is up to the student-athlete, but I just don't trust the school in Lincoln when it comes to the 11th hour. There are two or three recruits that I will feel better when the letter of intent is signed and faxed in on signing day.

I believe this is the same kid, that Coach Stig was waiting on to see who the new D-Line coach was going to be before he was going to offer him a scholarship.

I have always hated the Huskers! Last year provided me with another reason to do so!

SDSUJack3031 was referencing the original link, which had stories on athletes in addition to Ollman.

Read this and notice the article below Ollman (scroll down, you will see it), where they are talking about Ethan Hemer. He wanted to come to SDSU.

Good work everyone...I've updated the list to reflect the recent changes. Keep up the hard work on the research. If you find a guy that has committed to us or somewhere else, please provide the link so I can include it on the link.

Obviously our list isn't science as a lot of our recent committments have come from guys not presently on the list. I'm guessing we'll be seeing a lot of news popping up in the near future.

Signing day is just over 2 weeks away. Let the countdown begin!

It seems to me I read that we had 9 or 10 scholarships to give out this year. It would look like from the verbals & transfers we are at 9. Is my memory faulty.

Even if we do have 9 scholarships available, they aren't all given out as full-rides. We should see a 3-4 more guys come in on scholarship.

Athlete. Means he could end up at any number of positions.
