    Re: Dakota Marker Game

I'm not really sure how the rule reads but I remember seeing a college game on TV where a similar thing happened and even though the hit was technically in bounds, he was clearing running out of bounds so that's why it was called. Some one that knows more about that actual rule might know. I thought head to head contact penalty was actually going to be for the guy that slapped the ball away. I just saw some refs call that on TV last week for delay of game. Anyways, Who really cares about what the bison fans think. Another great victory for the Jacks. Today (or probably tom) the seniors will be cleaning out their lockers, finding special teams scouting reports from 3 years ago, and taking the stools as they leave the locker room. Coach Stig will declare the year over and tell the juniors that they are now the leaders of this team. It's such a wierd feeling, still remember it like it was yesterday! Lastly, thanks to all the guys for everything and congratulations on a huge victory in Fargo that the vast majority of us can say that we never got to experience. Let's not let a streak like that every happen again. Go Jacks!

Wow, those guys on Bisonville are more delusional than I could even imagine. They can whine and cry, but we have the Marker.

I'll post screen grabs later. But they say:

    1. Roehl wasn't down on that early play when he jumped up off the ground and took off. Video says he had a knee and elbow down, not to mention his back.

    2. No interference on that play where the guy jumped through JaRon to tip the ball away. Video says he went right through Jaron.

    3. The helmet to helmet hit was actually a shoulder pad. Video shows clearly the guy's helmet is in JaRon's face.

    4. Minett didn't hit the pylon on the first 2-point conversion. Video shows clearly he did.

    5. Humber was wrongly flagged for hitting Berry in bounds. Well... they're probably right on that one. That's football, fellas.

As I said, I'm encoding the video now and I'll post grabs on Bisonville later. That won't stop the whining, of course. Because the Bison have never actually LOST a game. They've only ever had games stolen from them by referees who are rooting for inferior teams.
Sorry...I meant no whining on our site. I'm sure they are at Bisonville. The early out-of-bounds hit on Berry wasn't. It was a bad call...if it was supposed to be a late hit, anyhow. The helmet-to-helmet late in the game was boarderline. At the game, I thought it was unsportsmanlike conduct. And, frankly, it should have been....for the no-class ball slap. So I guess you can call that a wash. Not that I'm trying to diminish the 15 yards...just trying to look at objectively....instead as of a Jack fan.

I guess if there will be whining...well, they can have a year's worth if that's what they want. That being said, though, it wasn't the best-officiated game I've seen on the whole.

Was the "late hit" on Berry where the concussion came from? Could they have ruled some type of blow to the head there? I haven't seen the replay. I'm just trying the figure out what the ref was thinking is all. Because at the game it sure looked like a gift for us. Not that I wasn't willing to take it.

A general observation: Holy crap was the playbook scaled back without Berry. But it all worked out quite nicely, thank you.

    Re: Dakota Marker Game

Random thoughts, but nothing new here:

    1) Got home from Fargo about 1 a.m., watched the last eight minutes of the game...and LOVED IT.

    2) If I would have been told we would have needed to covert three 40-plus yard field goals to win, I would have been...let's just say uncomfortable. Well done, Pete.

    3) You would think the dumbsh-t announcer at the Fargodome would at least learn how to pronounce the names of starters...but he didn't have a clue. THE MARCH IS ON...back to Brookings with the Marker!

    4) Ryan Berry...hats off. I retract all bad thoughts I've had about him. He proved he was a difference-maker. He had a chance to redeem himself after last week's pick and certain did. All credit to him. I will happily eat a big crow sandwich for past concerns.

    5) It was great...just AMAZING to see those Bison fans leaving with two minutes left. I was in the top row of the end zone luckily seated next to two SDSU fans, and we were just saying, "They're leaving. We have them leaving the game early!"

    6) Where are all the trolls? No USD fans jabbing away. No loud-mouthed Bison fans whining...all we have are a couple classy Bison fans giving congrats. (Thanks to them.)

    7) The two-point conversion calls...what BALLS! I think we are, often, conservative by nature. That changed yesterday.

    8) Before the game, I saw there was a ticket window for NDSU high school recruits to pick up their passes. I though, "Damn, I hope we win tonight...and give those recruits an eyeful." And we did. And I loved it.

    9) I will say a short prayer about a playoff birth. I know it's...well, a step beyond highly unlikely, but even so.

    10) There is still one last thing to potentially be pissy about. If we are ranked behind Western Illinois and, God forbid, NDSU in the last poll, I am going to be very unhappy with the voters. C'mon guys...pull your heads out!

That's it. Congrats to the team on a good season. Good seeing many of you at the games. Can't wait for next year.

TV's report in today's Argus (click Recommended! Good report!). You have to read the story.

    INJURED BERRY SAVES JACKS

FARGO – Ryan Berry may not remember what transpired Saturday night in the Fargodome, but history will.

After sitting out all but the first two possessions due to a concussion, the senior quarterback returned in the fourth quarter to throw a touchdown pass and a 2-point conversion with less than 3 minutes remaining to lead South Dakota State to a 25-24 victory over rival North Dakota State before a crowd of 18,428.

In a display of guts and guile, the Jackrabbits (7-5, 6-2) earned their first win in Fargo since 1962 and their first back-to-back triumphs in the 95-game series since 1963. They also claimed third-place outright in the Missouri Valley Football Conference in their first year in the league, became eligible for consideration for the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs – although they almost certainly won’t get a call from the selection committee today – and retained the Dakota Marker trophy

Fact, we shut Rhoel and their "vaunted" running game down. Mertens did a great job. Berry doesn't get hurt and we win handily IMHO. No need to harbor bad feelings, we beat them last year, we beat them this year and we will keep on beating them.

Just got back from celebrating an amazing win for a VERY DESERVING Jackrabbit team in Fargo. We had 50 fans in Yankton cheering on the Jackrabbits and they answered. No words can describe the win but I would day INSPIRING is the closest thing. Our leader, Ryan Berry, gets hurt, we hang in there and in the end he comes back to lead us to victory. Not only on the pass to score the TD but the points after, AMAZING. I can't even begin to describe how proud I am to be a Jackrabbit fan tonight.

DAMN!!!! WHAT A GAME!!!! That was fun. The best part, President Chicoine was kicking it up in the Press Box with us. His eyes lit up and he gave a fist pump after Steffen's two point conversion. This game was more fun than many of those old NCC yawners. Great game, a historic game. You could feel the air deflate out of the Fargodome after Harris' touchdown and even more so after Kjerstad's pick. Sent shivers down my spine.

    GAMEBALLS:
Offensive: Ryan Berry and Ryan Crawford. For Crawford to step in for a concussed Berry was huge. Scary that Berry doesn't remember much of the first half. To have Crawford go down with what Stig called a broken wrist and to have Berry lead the charge was huge. Big Props, that man has big balls when many wouldn't play the rest of the game.
Defensive: Eric Schroeder. It's been a damn long time since we heard your name on a consistant basis. You had some big plays and I believe you had your hand on that blocked field goal. Hell of a way to end your career. Your old man is proud of you I know that.
Special Teams: Peter Reifenrath. Three 40+ yard field goals early were huge. Might not have been the season you wanted, but son you finished strong.

Great game can't wait to get back to Brookings in the morning. GO BIG! GO BLUE!! GO JACKS!!!!

What a historic night to be a Jackrabbit fan. None of us will ever forget where we were the night the Jacks won in Fargo!
What an unbelievable finish. Just can't help but feel happy for all the previous players, coaches, administrators, and all of the fans of Jackrabbit Nation!!!

We are starting a tradition here. It's early but it is definitely starting.

Wow what a night! Couldn't be a more fitting sendoff for an incredible senior class! Thanks for an amazing year!

    Congratulations again!
