    Re: Tight end

Its been a little while since I had a chance to vent, but while I am at it for those of you who think I am saying the the TE and running quarterback make the whole offense, that is not what I am trying to get across. What I am saying is that is the difference between a fair offense and a GREAT offense. Hence Applichan St. back to back National Champs and they Beat D1-A Micigan in there house. I don't care who wants to critisize, and I think some of you feel the same way, but dont say it sometimes. Sometimes I wish the coaches could read these blogs and I hope some do, because they might pick up on some tips.

The offense is averaging 32.5 points per game and you think the offensive coaches should take into consideration what you think?

            Re: Tight end

I personally would like to see a scrambling and keeper type QB, but I really can not complain about the current offenses at SDSU. I caught some of the WIU vs NDSU game on tv in Fargo. No way did they have a sell out. The cameras showed a bunch of empty blue seats. Also NDSU seems to run a lot of the same plays that SDSU runs. Bohl like Coach Stig loves that one back set and they have a dandy in Roehl who is now healthy, but they are apparently short in some areas especially on Defense. They could not stop Donaldsen and that Williams on D made some big stops in the first half. Unfortunately did not get to see the last half.

I think the SDSU defense and our offense played one heck of a half to get WIU down 24-0. Be glad the WIU game is behind us. The Leathernecks looked to be quite a team today on TV in Fargo and they prove their worth by winning. I have to agree that with offense, if its not broke dont fix it. I would love to see a QB like Grace from UNI or the McNeese QB, but maybe thats not part of the general scheme. Until we finish in the basement of the MVC two years in arow, then I dont think we need to second guess.

As a long time fan, I appreciate Catchem playing days. HE was a TE dandy, as was Steve Heiden.

We hire a staff and we need to trust them in building a game plan.

              Re: Tight end

Anyone consider the simple reasoning that SDSU is not using our TE for passing situations is due to the fact he's being kept in to help block. Our O-line has been less than impressive this year and has a couple of injuries right now. A tight end is often kept in to help pass protect. I could be wrong but I'm guessing that has a lot to do with it.

That's a reasonable explanation in my mind. Rep pts.

NOR CAL JACK, I DON'T CARE WHAT KIND OF STATS THEY HAVE. tHE BOTTOM LINE IN WINS. we are 3 and 3. We Won the 3 easy games and lost the 3 hard games. Stats don't mean Jack----. When you pass 25.35.40.50 times a game your stats better be good. Any quarteback on the team good have good stats if they throw that may times a game. We almost lost to SFA which is one of the weak teams in that conference.
In big games they need the TE to be involved and a running quarterback. I don;t care if the coaches care what I think or not. Many teams have great stats and have losing records.

There is probably a good reason why you USED to coach.

1 Bunnies, I don't coach anymore because I have family obligation. I hope you have the ability to understand that. And by the way we made back to back State championship appearances. End of story.

Our passing game is NOT the problem. Maybe the fact that we're passing too much is???

Ryan Berry is 8th in total passing yards in the FCS with 1722 total yards:

                            http://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/natlRank.js...yards&site=org

and 11th in passing yards per game

                            http://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/natlRank.js...sgame&site=org

As a team we're 10th in passing offense per game:

                            http://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/natlRank.js...mpass&site=org

Berry is 41st in pass efficiency. Would be much higher had he not thrown 5 picks in the first game of the year:

                            http://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/natlRank.js...sseff&site=org

As a team we're 76th in rushing yards per game:

                            http://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/natlRank.js...sseff&site=org

Our defense is ranked 85th in total yards allowed per game:

                            http://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/natlRank.js...otdef&site=org

We allow 33.5 points per game which is good for 102nd best in FCS:

                            http://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/natlRank.js...ordef&site=org

We score 32.5 which is good for 23rd in the FCS:

                            http://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/natlRank.js...oroff&site=org

And the biggie, we are ranked 107 out of 118 for sacks allowed per game:

The reason we're 3-3 has nothing to do with not throwing our TE the ball. I would suspect, as pointed out, that our TE is doing a lot of pass blocking. Also, many times when we spread th field we don't have a TE in the game. I see our biggest problems as follows:

                            1. Defense. Our defense was suppose to be the best it's ever been this year. We've had a couple of key injuries but they still need to step it up. Right now, our defense is bad.

                            2. Offensive line. Guys, block. It's your job. Make holes, move people and protect the QB.

2a. Rushing offense. If we can run the ball, we can keep our defense off the field. Minnett is a small guy, but the holes are even smaller.

2b. Protecting the QB. That's a horrible stat and that doesn't count the number of times Berry has been hurried or knocked down. It's amazing he's only thrown 9 picks so far when he gets 1.9 seconds to throw the ball.

                                Re: Tight end

I never said the reason they are 3-3 is because they don't throw to the TE. Although they could possoble be 5-1 if they did use the TE and run the QB. THIS WOULD OPEN EVERYTHING UP OFFENSIVLEY,especially the running game. The defensive would have to play honest and not automatically blitz everytime we are in a 4 receiver set.
You are right about the below stat.
"And the biggie, we are ranked 107 out of 118 for sacks allowed per game"
One of the reasons for this is that the other offensive teams keep our defense honest. They mix it up, passing to the TE, QB running not using t 4 receiver set like we do if they use it at all. And your right if the TE is not in on 4 receiver sets, what good is that. Less blockers equal more sacks. and Interceptions. Our offensive line isn't as bad as people make them out to be. Its the play calling that makes them look bad. And like I said STATS DON'T MEAN CRAP. We are 3-3 and that is the bottom line.
