    Re: Iowa State Game Plans

I have heard the same thing about the lot near G6/G7. Its close to the stadium and a nice mix of people.

Therefore, I am planning to set up shop in a lot just east of G6. I'm told it is called the "haunted forest" lot. We will have a Jackrabbit flag with the YJC flag and a blue canopy. I'm bringing a coleman pop up tailgating grill, no fighting over grill space. Bring your own food and beverages.

The alumni tent will be set up right by the S5 lot on the map below in the green space between S5 and University blvd.

Does the SDSU have the whole spot, or would this work for a bunch of tailgaters to park, even if we haven't signed up for the SDSU Alumni outing? Our plan is to use the Auxiliary East Spot with the YJC and hopefully more Yellow and Blue fans, but I was thinking if the Auxiliary South spot is bigger and can fit a bunch of Jackrabbit fans, it might be fun if everyone was in there, even if we were tailgating ourselves, as far as food, drinks, all that stuff is concerned.

If not no biggie, we'll stick with the original plan by the river! Either way I'm sure we'll walk over to south spot.

          propar80,

Those Red lots are sub-divided and rented for tailgating by Iowa State (I/E the Alumni Association had to pay ISU for the spot and tent rental). We have other "hospitality" tents on either side of us (If I remember correctly we have seed companies on our left and right). So I don't think the general tailgating public can set up next to us.

Potential convoyers...if a plan is hammered out, please post it on this threat sometimes tomorrow. No huge hurry, but does it make sense to make this thread the go-to one for travel plans?

I've heard it referred to as the "haunted forest" lot and doing a little google search I found the link below. Click on the map and it brings up a photo. I'm pretty sure the tailgate spot is just west of the trees that make up the "haunted forest". At least that is what seem logical to me.

I'm not sure if this is the exact location but its where I plan to start looking when I arrive in Ames around 1:30 Thursday. Maybe one of the cyclone fans can provide more/better info.

My plan is to meet at the flying J in Sioux Falls. I'm looking to meet up with Jack4Life's group if I hear back from him or hopefully the good doctor around Yankton if one of them is up to it. Just call me at 605.651.3852 .

The "haunted forest" lot that you are referring to is east of that little road off of SE 4th. Basically, just move your "red" lot on the map to the east and its right there. When you pull in, you can't miss it. After turning off SE 4th street heading South, you will be on a gravel road, take your first left and you are there.

It is right next to your aux. east lot. The maps make it look farther than it is. That will be a great spot for you guys. It isn't a gravel road it is a gravel driveway pulling into the grass lot.
The lot is very close. You will be butting up right next to your fans tailgate there. You can see the entire stadium from right there. There is a big white tralier set up now that says haunted forest on the side. It the halloween deal they set up every year. Turn in the driveway when you see that.

I will look for you guys. Let me know how to find you. I can answer any more questions you might have.

Cydave and chriscyzer have sealed the deal for me. I'm planning to arrive and set-up in the "Haunted forest" lot just east of the east auxillary lot and G6. I'll be there around 1:30 with a crew of 5 in my van. We will have the Jackrabbit flag, a blue canopy, and a coleman tailgating grill. Everyone is welcome. I'll be representing the Yankton Jackrabbit Club so stop by and say hi. The location should allow for plenty of mingling with the cyclone fans especially in lot G7 and the Jackrabbit fans at the alumni tent and elsewhere. It shouls also be out of the students way enough that we don't cramp their style or offend.

Now, where can I get the best deal on beer in Ames? If we need some extra food where is the closest place to the tailgate area for supplies?

The keg shop, which is on Welch Ave, or Hy-vee, both of which are on Lincoln Way. If you are looking for extra food or supplies, go to Hy-vee on Lincoln Way. To get to lincoln way from the lot you are tailgating in... Get back on University BLVD and head North. It will be your next set of stop lights (where Hilton Coliseum is) take a right on Lincoln way. Drive east about 2 miles and Hy-vee is on your right hand side. If you want to go to the keg shop. Off of University BLVD turn left on lincoln way. Drive about 1 mile west (about half way through campus) and you will run into Welch Ave. Take a left on welch. Drive south about 1.5 blocks and the keg shop is on your left hand side, behind Battles BBQ.
