nice finish Jacks. We've done our part to set up one of the biggest games in a long time next week. Let's refocus and win that sucka!

The way we are playing, and they way we beat NDSU last time they were in brookings, NDSU has to be a more than a little nervous coming into this game.

It's homecoming in SLO, there is still an outside chance that SDSU could clinch a conference tie this weekend.

Great game (although I was flipping out the 2nd and 3rd quarters), way to be resiliant when EVERYTHING seems to go against you. We need to learn from these turnovers. Normally special teams has been our bread and butter this year, and this game it fell apart. I think we'll regroup and put a good one together next week. Hopefully we're back at full speed, with harris and everyone else healthy, and be ready to smack NDSU in the mouth.

Hopefully Cal Poly left a few good tricks up their sleeve to sway the game their way.

It's homecoming for Cal Poly and they need a win to have a shot at the playoffs.

Stig just made mention of the lack of attendance. Let's all make an effort next week.

Just got home from the game. As was mentioned, the crowd was pathetic, particularly given such a nice day. Maybe people were waiting for next week. If so, they missed one very entertaining quarter after three really painful ones.

SUU (or as my wife christened them, the Thunderturds) probably makes a lot of teams play ugly games. From what I could tell, they have sort of a "what the hell" mentality that makes them dangerous. Guy's not open: What the hell, throw it. Might be a TD, might be a pick. As I recalled, they are a very chippy team. Lots of whining and complaining on every play. In that, they take on the mentality of their soon-to-be-fired head coach. Once again, thank heavens we have Stig. I will mention what a crock Schroeder's unnecessary roughness penalty was. About midway through the game, I remembered what a bunch of chippy idiots SUU's players are, so I started watching the middle of the field after plays. On the play where Schroeder got flagged, he blocked a guy DURING the runback. Then he helped the guy up. The SUU player jumped up and ran off the field. He didn't think it was unnecessary. The ref (worst I have seen at Coughlin in a while) was flag-happy. And, by the way, anybody out there ever seen both a receiver AND a defender get flagged for interference before? Me neither. Pathetic officiating.

The only thing I'm going to take away from the game is that the team clearly has totally bought into the coaching staff's mantra about how one play can change the game. That was clearly the case today. You could point to a stop on fourth down in the third quarter as a turning point. Then, Tyler Koch and others (but especially Tyler... who's a lock to be GWFC player of the week for the second week) stepped up and made plays.

There was enough good stuff in the fourth quarter that the team can go into NDSU week feeling confident. Had we simply slumped to a 31-27 win or something, that wouldn't be the case. But they made things happen when it mattered.

It was a tough game to watch, but the fourth quarter made it worthwhile. Too bad nobody came out to see it.
                        Holy nutmeg!

                          • Re: Southern Utah

Just returned from the game. Some random observations:

The second quarter was very painful to watch. So was most of the third quarter. Perhaps we were just trying to be polite hosts . . . "no, really, here, you can have the ball for the entire second quarter."

We could very easily have lost this game, something that isn't apparent if you just look at the final score. We were one more bad play away from being in a very, very deep hole in the 3rd quarter.

We've got a runner that's putting up 250 yards a game recently, so we . . . throw wide receiver screens on first down---into coverage. A lot. Or we run the little sprint draw into the middle of the line. A lot. I think there's room to question the offensive play-calling in the second and third quarters (although, as stated above, we really didn't have the ball much in the second quarter).

The defense won this game. The offense was a liability today.

I sure hope that officiating crew wasn't a Gateway crew. They were really, really bad, missing lots of calls (an obvious push-off on the one SUU interception in the end zone . . . and Wagner pretty obviously stepped out of bounds at the 2 on his long TD reception among others).

If we play like that against NDSU we're going to get drilled. I don't think we can count on getting seven turnovers from the Bison.

Still, the ongoing personality of our football program is that We Don't Quit. That's not a bad thing.

SDSU is not a football school. It won't be a football school until we string together several 9+ win seasons and a few wins in the NCAA playoffs. Only the hardest hardcore fans will turn out in November to watch .500 football teams. The good news is that there is a hard core of SDSU football fans. Those are the people who were here today.

It will be an upset if we beat NDSU next week. But one thing we know from the past couple of years in football is that ANYTHING is possible once the ball gets kicked off.

Now, it's time to get ready to win the Summit League volleyball championship in our first season . . .
                            "I think we'll be OK"

Just got back from the game also.

I was thinking about halftime that I am glad no one was there to watch.

Great finish by the Jacks and we need to be outstanding next week. According to Stig, Harris will go next week, but Kubesh may have tweaked a hammy, but he didn't know for sure.

I am Jacked about next week and hope to see many more people there. The only good part about the lack of attendance today was my 4 year old got to run wild in the north endzone without bothering anyone and I got to watch the game.

crowd was bad but I can't really blame anybody, long weekend, its a late harvest this year so a lot of kids went home to help, and with gas 3.00+ and 2 Sioux Falls hs teams playing tonight you weren't going to get to many people to come from out of town considering NDSU is coming next week....

I watched the game on webcast and they seemed to run the perfect play at the perfect time for the 2nd and 3rd quarters.... The announcers really harped on the refs which means they had to be bad because they usually don't complain unless its really bad.... It seemed like there line man handled ours I saw a few (more like many) holds that weren't called. I didn't understand why they kept running that same pass play to the flats when clearly Berry couldn't couldn't make the pass with the wind.. As my coach told me once I was proud that they didn't break they were bent way out of shape but never broke so I have to give them credit for that.
