Chase will be one heck of a running threat, but we will need to avoid running him in the regular season as there is a not a clear high level back up for next year. I still get nightmares from when J’Bore went down. I’m still excited about Eschelman, but maybe the Jacks would look at a grad transfer with experience from the D2/D3/NAIA ranks to at least have an experienced back up on the roster.

They have the best WRs in SD on roster, but we saw how important depth in the defensive backfield can be.

Do you feel we need to bring in a transfer WR?

I look forward to being in Bozeman on September 6 next year to face a Montana State team that doesn't have "Mr. Everything" as quarterback.

You can’t win them all, but let’s take a look at how the Jacks can re-group and win it all next season. I wanna go to Nashville!!!!
Coaching:
HC: haven’t seen Jimmy name in talks of any major positions. I would be shocked if he left after a loss like that. I think Jimmy is a great coach and the perfect guy to push this group back to the top.
Offensive: As I mentioned in the GDT thread, Olson needs to focus on O Line and be on the sideline. Fruend needs to become play caller. Or just bring Davis back.
Defensive: We might lose a coach or two but Jimmy will always make sure the defense is top notch. No concerns, no direct changes needed.
QB: Chase Mason woke up this morning with the crown. I hope he steps up as a leader like Mark did and makes sure plenty of extra time is spent to get the pass game dialed before next season. Chase will be one heck of a running threat, but we will need to avoid running him in the regular season as there is a not a clear high level back up for next year. I’m still excited about Eschelman, but maybe the Jacks would look at a grad transfer with experience from the D2/D3/NAIA ranks to at least have an experienced back up on the roster.
RB: I’m guessing Maxwell Woods will be the featured back, with Angel mixed in like we saw this year. I would like to see Angel used more creatively at time, as his speed in the slot of bubble screens or jet sweeps would be deadly. Kirby gets 5-10 carries a game, utilized kind of like a goal line back. Kirby also blocks really well, and should get used in any 2 back sets. I’d expect a very even carry share between these 3, and I think they will be more productive than what we saw this year.
WR: Wilde is set as an elite WR1. Grahm is a solid WR2. Lofton could step up and be WR 2 too. Can Jack Smith, Landon Dulaney, Carter Pabst, or otherwise step in and give us another deadly WR to rotate? The WR room should, and needs to be, more productive with another year of development.
TE: We rotated a lot do guys and I expect the same next season. We need one of them to emerge in the passing game. I’m hoping for more Alpers. Like the WRs, TEs should be better with a year of development.
OLINE: Need to replace G-C-G. Not sure who is expected to fill these roles. Gus is tough to replace. Jacks could look for a portal interior lineman to provide some experience.
DLINE: Losing DePreist will hurt. We played good amount of guys this year. Need some young ones to step up. Should be okay. Already brought in a DE from Tulsa with NFL pedigree.
LBS: This is our biggest loss. Luckily, Jimmy Rogers is our coach. He will get the new group ready to go.
DBS: sounds like Humphrey has another year. Large is back to lead the secondary. This has been a strength for the Jacks and I expect it to continue to be one.
Overall: I think this loss will motivate the guy to more development and growth than we saw last year. It’s tough when your season going into January. I would take a portal QB, IOL, and maybe a WR or LB if there was an elite one out there.
We will be back.
