If the selection committee keeps in front of them the question "Who is playing the best football right now?' then easily SDSU hits the number 2 position. We have beaten the last four opponents by a combined score of 176 to 32.

The conspiracy theorist in me believes NDSU will get the 2 seed( Matt Larsen the NDSU AD is the chair of the committee). If they are 2, I hope we drop to 4 and potentially go to Montana rather than Fargo. As stated before, the Augie game does us no favors.

Matchup wise, I think the jacks match up the best with Montana state and worst with usd. That is without factoring home vs away.
I think Montana state has the best running game but I’m not as concerned about us against the run anf I believe Mellott is the most limited passer of the three QBs.
i think usd’s offense is very balanced on all levels and their DL is their biggest strength which makes them the worst match up for us.

I think these teams are all very close in the end, excited to see it play out either way. Go Jacks!

Prior to last night I thought the seeding was pretty clear.

          NDSU
          MSU
          SDSU
          USD

Now we’ve got a mess. MSU is the clear cut #1. After that it gets messy. If you go SDSU, NDSU, USD the win last night meant nothing for USD. If you go SDSU, USD, NDSU you drop the bison 3 spots for 1 road loss. If you go USD, NDSU, SDSU the Jacks are penalized for smoking Misery St on the road.

SDSU has been the leader in Sagarin all year. I have to think that gives us an edge for the 2.

I haven’t watched one bobcat game. Do they still run Mellot as much as they have in the past? If they do the odds of him making it through a playoff run are probably not great.

              My gut tells me this

              1-MSU
              2-NDSU
              3-SDSU
              4-USD

NDSU has the best overall body of work over USD and SDSU with more D1 wins, more currently-ranked wins, a tougher strength of schedule, and a better FBS loss.

This is probably how it should be but I hope we are 2.

Doesn’t seem like they run him as much as in 2021. It’s similar to Mark where he ran a bunch early in his career but not as much now. Looks like they passed a decent amount against UC Davis as well so they’re not one dimensional.

His last four seasons have been:
                    • 72 attempts for 640yds this season (12 games)
                    • 85 attempts for 689yds in 2023 (9 games)
                    • 170 for 1,071 in 2022 (12 games)
                    • 113 for 716 in 2021 (13 games)
I'd be curious how much his decreased rushing attempts have been due to a combination of Chambers' absence and Humphrey's production.

Speaking of utilization/injuries, anyone know if there were any injuries sustained by NDSU, USD, or 'cats in their games?

I know Fargo media is still beating the Wisniewski may play drum.

                      Don't know about USD/NDSU.

For MSU, only new injury I think is #2 RB Julius Davis. That one might be serious enough to go past the first round bye, and I think he only just came back from an injury earlier this season. Humphrey was previously injured at Davis and was limited yesterday. I think their #1 receiver FB/TE Jones was also previously injured (I don't think he got hurt yesterday), but he did have two catches. Hard to say if he was limited in any way since they only had like 6 caught passes yesterday out of maybe 10 passing plays.

2 - South Dakota State (highest Sagarin, best defense, offense really playing well now)
3 - South Dakota (Beat #4, took #2 to overtime)
4 - North Dakota State (Lost to #3, last-minute win vs. #2 at home was a long time ago in football time)
The committee should also consider communicability factors such as the following for the 'Yotes and Bison.

Thank you, I went to a sports bar in SF that balked at showing the Brawl and Bison-'Yotes games, and my buddy and I opted to stream USD game on my phone after it became clear the Grizz weren't likely to stay in that game. I didn't notice any injuries in the snippets of the USD game I saw

Communicability factors are why USD only has 8 D1 wins.

My comment was half in jest, but it would be interesting to see how the Committee tussled with pertussis paradox
