Looks like he also had a Winona State offer, so Bergy probably is familiar with him.

On the other hand, it bothers me that players who have been on campus and involved with the program for years made their decisions. I do think that a number of them will eventually regret the move.
Looking at the list on JI for players heading for WSU, there are 4 listed as grad transfers, 2 seniors (Large and Angel Johnson), 0 juniors, 1 sophomore (Kirby Vorhees - Florida), and a bunch of redshirt freshman (most of which where not from the local area). There are seven total players that have been on campus for a full year. That tells me that most of our older players are bought in to the community and school.

I’ve chosen to view this as the ones that were willing to leave were not going to be the type of leaders we want for the next class of players anyway. I’ll miss some of their skills as players - leadership qualities- not so much.

The decimation of basically 2 full recruiting classes will be a hurdle for the new staff to overcome, but the culture is still good. 19 of the 27 players are on the defensive side of the ball. Depth and special teams may be a challenge until we can recover.

I think on paper the 2024 and 2025 recruiting classes are the best we ever had do in large part to the success of the program that Stig built and all of that was done with SDSU's recruiting budget. This will have a major impact on the product we put on the field the next two years as our depth has taken a major hit. I think Jackson has assembled a superior coaching staff and they will produce, but going to lower my expectations for 2025. I also think you will some of the 30 players who have departed for WSU back in the portal soon.

    offer on
WR Kellen Watson 6'3" 195lb Mishawaka, IN
Looks like he transitioned from WR to QB this past season. this person called him the 3rd fastest player in Indiana
on3 recruiting guy retweeted Kellen's offer and had this to say "... One of the fastest players in the Midwest"

seriously, he could not find some kids with ties to the WSU area? i understand it for kids who were coming to us from colorado or anywhere west. i could also understand for any kids who had already decided to move a significant distance
but we had a bunch of kids who were going to be playing the distance of a very easy drive from home. suddenly it is smart for all of them to play a long way from home. have Jimmy and staff given ANY thought at all to what might be best for those kids?

i know that has pretty much been said before. hard to believe that there are not some people who really believed that they knew Jimmy well who are not incredibly disappointed

Well let's be honest I will be surprised jimmy stays more then 2 years. Maybe 3 at best. He will leave for big 10 or 12 etc and probably bail on all the kids he talked into going to a school who has no home or conference to play for. Just like Otz going to unlv. It was always a stepping stone. Wsu is not a destination coaches want to stay at. Especially now.

On occasion I go back and review previous classes...... the 3* players who didn't quite fit... and the underrecruited who flourish. Anyone still on our team is vital, and new additions will mesh in most cases. Highly confident.

There's not exactly a lot of choice '25 guys left and the staff can't exactly go back in time and spend 2 years building relationships. At this point, the emphasis is obviously on having a class after the bulk of our '25 class went to Pullman.

It's tough to take into account the offer list from other schools on guys, but I do feel what you are saying and slightly question it as well. Our big time players since going FCS, a lot of them have really had no other offers besides SDSU. Certainly some exceptions though.

Looks like he had a PWO opportunity with the University of Illinois. Old coaching staff was interested in him. He visited Brookings May '24 and again for prospect camp June '24.
