No, the fact that we don't sell out every game is the point.

Despite the field full of straw men you've fabricated, my argument has never been that you can't invite/buy tickets for friends and family who support opponents or that other teams' fans should be prohibited. I've clearly stated that Jacks fans shouldn't be making random overtures on opponents' boards to make them aware that those Jacks fans may have extra tickets available (especially before posting similar messages regarding potential ticket availability for Jacks fans here).

Despite the ridiculousness of your "stealing tickets" statement and proposed solution; again, it's not the opponents who are stealing them here, it's Jacks fans buying them up and then planting the future reselling seed to opponents. Yes, I noticed you didn't address the high probability this wasn't some reciprocal ticket situation.

Lastly, if they have more than 2k here on 9/9, it'll be a sad testimony regarding Jacks fans' support, but I understand the 10k figure you cite is evidence you're not here for a reasoned discussion.

I'd be curious how many on here would be willing to accept $5-10 less per ticket to help a family of Jack backers attend the game versus getting market to greater than market value from opponents' fans.
There is 1 month 1 week till the kickoff for the MSU game. That would be ample time to purchase the tickets and distribute the tickets. If you run out of families to attend, the local football high school players might be another group to give tickets. It could be similar to the Her Turn group that provides a chance for young gals. It would provide some goodwill for the next 40 days rather than the current exchanges. Go get them!

Careful, reminding other fan bases that tickets are on sale is not cool. Those should only be for usd fans to purchase first.

Working on getting coworkers and friends to games, but if you know Jacks fans who can't find a ticket, I'll try to help them too.

Haha, the distinction between "tickets are available" and "I bought tickets (thereby negating the opportunity for other Jacks fans to purchase them), and I wanted to make you opponents' fans aware they may be available (prior to telling Jacks fans)" fortunately isn't lost on everyone.

Somebody is going to (ought to) shoot me for the length of my post! But, here are a few comments after getting caught up on goon's position statements about ticket purchasing:

Post #10 in this thread from goon: S
houldnt our fans be reciprocal to ndsu fans that have benefited sdsu fans?

Post #12 from goon: I guess i shouldnt have benefitted from my brother as a Nebraska fan who got us tickets to the Neb games years ago.
I think coaches wouldnt really care, as long as its a great atmosphere. I doubt sdsu fans are going out of their way buy 50 or 100 bison fans. If adsu fans are getting left out they need to do better planning a head.
If an sdsu fan is friends with or knows a bison fan who hooked them up with a ticket for fargo i see no issue repaying the favor. I dont think going out of their way to hook up other fans is necessary.

                RESPONSES::

Answer to Goon post 10: No. But that's not the point. Growing the fan base is the goal.
I've been to many SDSU games in the Fargodome. In most cases, getting a ticket was very difficult and in some years, impossible. That's a compliment to the Bison on how things are done in Fargo. They set an example on three points: 1) loyal fan support; 2) outstanding season-ticket sales; and 3) the Bison preference for Dippin' Dots at the FDD concessions stands. I've contended we need to get to the same level of demand for seating. My primary motivation is not the exclusion of a visiting fan base. I want to see a full stadium on Saturdays in Brookings. I want to see annual increases in season tickets sold. On point three: I prefer SDSU ice cream to the Dippin Dots.

any want to assist in the effort to expand our fan base by getting tickets in the hands of casual Jacks fans or fans who have potential to become Jacks fans. We have a huge, largely untapped fan base in communities that are an easy drive to Brookings including Sioux Falls area, Watertown, Aberdeen, Mitchell, Huron, Marshall, MN and points in between. We have a loyal group who make the trip to every home game from Pierre and Rapid City. I know a guy who lives near Buffalo, SD, and catches all the games on the radio. He's looking forward to attending his first game in Brookings. We could not have purchased the attention the Jacks received and continue to receive with that win in Frisco. So now we redouble efforts to get people in the stadium who have never been there before.

Responding to goon's post 12: You and your brother can work that out. I wish you well. Remember the cardinal rule: when fighting with your brother, no punching in the face. Just arms.

Responding to goon's post 15: My view is stated in my comment above on goon post 10. While there have been some successful efforts in recent seasons to snap up tickets for Jacks fans to the exclusion of visiting fans, I don't think the motivation is entirely focused on excluding visiting fans going through the turnstyles. Discouraging visiting fans can be a side benefit if all of the seats are taken by SDSU fans. For example, I think there are a significant number of employees of a certain Sioux Falls banking organization that have become Jacks fans because one of the officers in their organization made tickets available. I thought that was a good move. Employers in other communities have done the same for some of our opponents. I'm not against taking money out of the pockets of visiting fans -- filling the stadium is a priority in my book. Nearly 20,000 screaming fans is a lot of fun no matter where they came from. A full crowd of those wearing blue and yellow is preferred but having some wearing green or red adds to the fun.

Goon also wrote in post 15: "If your concerned other fans might get into a game, buy up every single available ticket and you can screen and only let sdsu fans in. Then you wont have to worry about those evil opposing fans stealing seats from sdsu fans." If that happened, it wouldn't bother me one darn bit. We've had a lot of fun at games when a large home crowd controls the noise. Even more fun: play a game when the temp at kickoff was 7 degrees and it went down from there as in the case of the Montana State playoff game this past season. The crowd was slim but more than made up for the lack of numbers with outsized noise combined with some of the best sports-oriented standup comedy routines (and beer on the edge of freezing when placed on the aluminum flooring in the stands. Heckuva game and I have to think that if the Montana State game was the first SDSU football game some fans attended, in spite of the weather they'll be back.

Goon's post 19: No response. I've used more than my fair share of bandwidth. .

It will be interesting if the Bison fan turnout will be as big as past years after the swing in the rivalry in the past few seasons.

Doubtful. Maybe if we take a loss or two early and they look better than expected.

Logging on to buy tickets this AM, I can tell you that there are a lot more available for the NDSU game than the Montana State game.

I can't even begin to describe how excited I am for Jackrabbit football! Picked up 4 cheap-seat season tickets due to budgetary constraints this year... but we'll be there for all of em, shouting loud!

Personally, I have no issue with ringthebells perusing around on other boards, inviting Bobcat fans over, giving them information about Brookings/game-day experience. I would even say I like seeing it. From my experience with the Bozeman faithful, they a pretty neat bunch... and aren't a bunch of raging a-holes. Sure, many had some misplaced confidence going into our game last year, but that's why we play the game instead of letting the loudest smack on fan forums decide the game. Very well could happen to us anytime like that too. Always gonna have a few standouts that leave a bad impression... but guess what... we do too. Having friendly competition in the stands makes it fun. If you wanted a game with no opposing fan competition or atmosphere... you can sure drive to Verm in late October to experience that.

I counted under 700 so they are moving fast if 50 were sold in the last hour. Should be sold out by the end of the week.

So forgive me for the likely silly question - but Carolina - do you have insider information/abilities to look this up? Or are you both just counting green dots on the ticket map? JR2012 says counting occurred, so I'm going to assume he's in the latter...
