    Re: UC-Davis

Does anyone know if there are student busses going down? Is el presidente still lurking? Has the athletic dept or the students association organized anything? It would seem to me that something should be done.

      Re: UC-Davis

I know the pride is bussing it down.

I doubt they would have general student busses. It is only 50 miles and we all know at least 90% of the students have a vehicle.

The ones that want to go will be there either way. Hopefully that means a few thousand!

I have access to at least a couple of tickets that might not be used. If interested let me know and I will confirm if they are available. I suspect it will be a "sell out". Don't know if that means they will turn people away, but they might.

I just hope our offense doesn't turn people away. We need better than a 30% completion percentage and some big plays from our QB if we even want to think about winning this game.

            Re: UC-Davis

At the Jackrabbit Club meeting in Brookings  today, Stig hinted that Berry might get a shot at starting if Kardoes is not ready to go. We have a bunch of guys that are having injury problems. Paul Kiezar is out for Saturday. JD Fischer is having problems with pinched nerves and at times he can not move his arms. Taylor Murray continues to have headaches from concussion injuries and he may not play. Paul Fischer name was mentioned but he too is doubtful for Saturday.  Our line on both sides seems to be dinged up some.

Stig said the guys were very down after the Texas State game and he said he told them that they were still a very good football team, and they got beat by a better team.

Stig seems to be building good relationships with the coaching staffs of opponents we have not faced before. He said Texas State has 8 coaches who recruit.  Four go to Dallas and the other 4 go to Houston.  The Texas State coach said they have turned D1 transfers down, as they get a bunch without asking.  He said many of these D1 transfers are often carrying baggage. (Take that anyway you want too.)

One of the boosters jokely asked Stig if he told the Texas State coach to send those D1 guy our way.  Stig said its been his philosophy not to go looking for D1 transfers because he would prefer to bring in the true freshman and let them grow within the program.  He said those that are unhappy with a D1A program have reasons for wanting to leave and its not always positive.

Micah Gretz mentioned the tail gate gathering at Canarie Staduim. It starts at 10:00 AM  The Pride is going to put on a mini concert at 12 noon, and the plan is to have the tailgaters parade behind the band into Howard Wood Field. So if you make the tailgate rally, its a chance to march with the Pride.

Sounds like a fun time. I am planning to attend.

When I was playing, I always appreciated Stig's stance on not always shopping for transfers. It shows a loyalty to the guys he recruited. It reinforced his mentality that he believes in his players.

If they did end up turning people away, hopefully the game is exiting enough and theyhear about it, to entice them to make the trip to Brooking Those that haven't seen the Jacks the last few years.

I spoke with ticket office the other day and they are predicting a full house. I would be surprised if they would be turning people away. It sounds like the weather will cooperate on Saturday. Everybody encourage a friend to come along. It would be nice if we exceed the attendence of last weeks USD-Augie game of 8018 at Howard Field.

I would hope so. I will be dissapointed if we don't top 10k.

The forcast for Sat is sunny with a high of 62. Doesn't get better than that.

                      Hey,
Sorry for the delay. I'm still lurking but it has been a super busy week. The game tomorrow should have a good student showing. There are no buses simply because it is a three day weekend and the first one of the year. The first three day weekend of the year means lots of people go home. However, alot of our students are from within 50 miles of SF or in SF. We have been promoting the game in the union and the athletic department has flyers everywhere. Sadly some students are going to D-Days (USD homecoming) this weekend instead of to the Jacks game. Since USD isn't a rival anymore most students just want a place to find a good party. Some are coming up from V-town on Sat. morning for the game though. We have rented a bus to go to the NDSU game.

Heading out for SF right now. Staying at the Sheraton. Planning to hit the pool with the kids tonight if they want to.

Will be at the stadium when the doors open for the pre-game. Maybe I'll bump into someone tonight.

Of course, I'll be watching the Yankees go up 2-1 at home tonight before the Jacks pull out a tough one against Cal-Davis.

                          Article Published: 10/8/05
BROOKINGS - Cowbells in hand, Ryan Brunner plans to make a 60-mile drive south of campus to watch his South Dakota State University football team play a home game today.

The SDSU senior plans to be one of almost 10,000 fans expected at Howard Wood Field for a Division I football game against the University of California-Davis. It's the first time the Jackrabbits have hosted a home game in Sioux Falls where, during the school's Division II days, they regularly played Augustana College.

"Obviously, SDSU is in Brookings - this is where the heart of the university is," said Brunner, the president of the school's Student Association. "But at the same time, we're becoming South Dakota's team with the kind of competition and quality of play we're bringing in."

As SDSU's athletic department continues its ascent to the highest classification of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, Sioux Falls is a major component of funding the move, one which is expected to continue and grow. The school held two baseball games in the city last spring, and a men's basketball game will follow in December.

"Howard Wood has a lot of tradition," said Fred Oien, SDSU's athletic director. "It's a real showcase for us to have a home game there."

One week after more than 8,000 college football fans watched Augustana and the University of South Dakota play on the same field, the Jackrabbits hope to surpass that.
                          "I think we'll be OK"

When Kick off? I hope its this afternoon because NDSU plays tonight at 8. I get KNAX, I think thats the call letters for the Jacks Football radio, anyway I get good reception and listen to a lot of Jacks games. Good luck.

Great game for the Jacks so far. They need to hold Davis off though. 16-8 with 6:00 to go. Would have been nice to get a TD instead of those field goals, but Douglass has a leg - nearly hit a 65 yarder today, but still set the record with a 54 yarder.
