Thanks for the insight. The "K-State Model" worked well in the early stages because it is extremely easy for a BCS school to make it into a bowl game (and rev up the fans and alumni) since those conferences usually have enough bowl tie-ins to ensure that every bowl-eligible team can get into a bowl. It probably wouldn't apply very well to this level of football because the playoff selection committee likely wouldn't give an at-large bid to a team that had four or five wins against non-scholarship teams (Drake, Valpo, San Diego, etc.) and perrenial bottom-feeders. An 8-3 record likely wouldn't pass master if 4 or 5 of those wins were against powder-puff opponents. (The same principle applied to a certain D-II school in this state for a couple seasons.....)

BearsCountry, if the Gateway does table expansion tomorrow, let your administrators know how you feel. Let them know that you want your school to play good programs instead of a lot of powder-puffs.......

More information, how much more do they need to know. It sounded like a pretty busy day though, alot of coffee and donuts must have been put down. If anybody catches that WDAY feed with Terry they should give us a little rundown.

Update from Terry's blog:

5:50 p.m. Gateway associate commissioner Mike Kern on the non-events of the day: �Both schools made good presentations today and a good exchange of information,� he said. �Our presidents were looking to get more information. No decision was made today on whether we�re ready for expansion yet. Our timetable is our presidents are going to reconvene after they get some more information, probably the first week of March.� He was not sure what kind of information the presidents are seeking.

What information would they need that the xDSUs or the Western Illinois president couldn't give them by now? It sounds kind of fishy..... :

Agree - Didn't they offer more information, but the conference presidents said that is all they need - What a wierd situation.

Any word on when the vote will happen?
I have heard differing assumptions, from a couple days from now all the way to mid-summer.

Ovenden (KDLT) is reporting that a vote could possibly take place tonight or tomorrow.

I am waiting to hear from Ms. Viverito. Based on what Terry V. and the boys from Fargo have said I didn't expect word today and I'm not sure we will hear this week. I hope we either get a yes or a no sooner than later.

I think there are some schools in the Gateway that are alot like some of the schools in the NCC. They drag their feet and are unable to see the big picture. Their may even be a little Big Sky thinking in their minds as well, alot of worry about more competition and travel costs from what I've read in the Fargo Forum.

Some interesting comments from Steve Hallstrom on PTS.

- Meeting was basically over by 3:00 PM because President's decided earlier that there would be no vote today,
- There may be negotiations going on behind the scenes for financial assistance for the travel to the Dakotas,
- Some Presidents need more time to consider the information (or to allow for further negotiations),
- There were quite a few questions related to the long-term plans of NDSU & SDSU,
- Participants were under strict orders from the Conference to make no comments.
