Re: 2019 Recruiting List
Good job Westside. These guys are on campus at 4 to 6 years maximum. It such small portion of total life. It would be interesting to compare with NDSU. They no doubt have a few that disappear. Just before Bohl took over, predecessor had problems and a bunch of exits. Recently, with more focused recruits probably not so much.

Re: 2019 Recruiting List
Outstanding information!
Thanks for doing it. I am apprehensive to throw kids under the bus when they don't "make it" or "can't cut it". (Not saying you are doing this)
We see how many kids left, but how many people actually realize what it takes to be a student/athlete? It is a lifestyle. And it's not always for everyone.
No one is more disappointed than I am when kids don't work out, but sometimes it's just not meant to be.
Would love to see you go back as far as you can. It would be cool to see the information.

Re: 2019 Recruiting List
I can't add more rep to Westside for his analysis, but I too find it very interesting. Betting on the success of the team based on recruiting classes can be like investing in Vegas or almost as bad as farm commodity prices. Regardless of what anyone thinks of these players after signing day, the vast majority of our players get signed as high school seniors. The real success is from Coach Stig and his staff in developing these young men as a team. Kudos to them for the countless hours of recruiting, coaching, and mentoring these guys for the ultimate success that occurs in life after football. We just get to watch from the bleachers and banter on fan boards.

Re: 2019 Recruiting List
Westside - I love this look at the roster breakdown! I would like to see this done in a fashion that we can trace back over time. Similar to Gopherhole's recruiting breakdown by year. I know that this is easy for me to say since it doesn't require my time and effort. But I do appreciate the effort you guys put forth.
Side note - Teams tended to pick on our corners not named Jordan Brown this year. Think of the corners we've recruited and played, but haven't finished their careers with us. Trey Carr, Shak Taylor...

K/P - Jake Wolfe, Kicking backup. May start in 2020.
This is already an interesting class, and plenty can change in the next year or two but here is where it stands in my opinion...
Stars: 2, Strong and Krolikowski
Starters: 5
Contributors: 18
No longer rostered: 14 (2 Transfer, 4 cut, 1 injury retired, 2 quit, and 5 were never rostered)
This *WAS* at the time considered the most talented signing class SDSU had ever had. I think we are seeing that given how many have contributed in their first two years. This could also be part of the reason the previous two classes had such high attrition. All speculation on my part. I think this is still a really really good class even with the losses of Callender, Urbanek, Hodge, and Simpson. They were probably four of the most highly thought of players in this group. Losing them and still having this class look as good as they do says a lot to the depth of the class.
Sorry to those of you who find roster shaping boring. This has just been a fascinating exercise for me! haha

I will say this though. If the guys that quit/injured/cut that were on scholarship, that just opens up the scholly to the next "star". At least, that is what you hope anyways!

Preferred Walk-On (17)
FB - Michael Daniel***, Part-time starter, goal line specialist
FB - Turner Blasius, Special teams, backup FB
FB - Nick Jensen, Quit
RB - Clark Wieneke, Cut Sp18
WR - Dayton Bird, Quit F16
WR - Gavin Rudoll, Never rostered

LB - Gunnar Grimsrud, Quit
LB - Zach Robertson, Quit
LB - Rayce Willett, Quit
DB - Blake Bubak, Never rostered
DB - Lance Eide, Special teams player
DB - Will Whiton, Injury retired
So by my count this class has:
Stars: 6, TC, Adam Anderson, Ryan Earith, Cristian Rozeboom, Brady Hale, Chase Vinatieri
Additional Starters: 6
Contributors: 4
Disappear: 23
The number of injuries in this class is staggering and this class had a huge walk on group which is why they are walk-ons. 11 of the 17 walk-ons are not here.
Interesting question so thanks for posing it.

I really feel for guys who left due to injury, and it is tough to say the just disappeared with no contribution. Even for Taylor or Clark, they contributed for the 1-2 years that they were here, and they didn't hold down a scholarship for when they weren't contributing.
I'm mincing words with you, but I think it is an important distinction.
