Quick check over on the Gopher recruiting board doesn't look like Fleck and crew are scouring in-state kids. Two of their 12 verbals are MN kids and from what I could tell with a quick cursory glance over the 7 pages of offers was no other in-state offers as of now. May bode well for us if the MN kids chose to "Ring the bell!" vs "Row the boat".

I like the thought of growing our presence in the Gopher state. The tough thing there is that we have some tough competition with the other neighboring programs competing there too. NDSU has largely built their program for decades with top Minnesota talent that is overlooked by the Gophers. With UND moving to the MVFC, they will likely target more Minnesotans too. UND parents won't have to travel to Montana and the west coast to see Johnny play away games. Iowa, Iowa State, Wisconsin and a host of DII programs and smaller have also picked apart that area. The only school I really see getting hurt by the lack of recruiting in Minnesota, is the Gophers. While they may not schedule FCS schools anymore, it still is fresh in the minds of many the wounds they licked after repeated beatings by the Bison and even Yotes.

On another neighboring recruiting state, Nebraska is making a stronger effort to retain in-state talent. Coach Riley and staff have been in schools in rural parts of Nebraska that haven't seen Husker coaches since Osborn left. While the Huskers can't retain or dress as many walk-ons as in their hay-day, they are making more of an effort to contact these kids early.
