    Re: 2017 Recruiting List

Jacks have offered Spirit Lake Iowa's Zach Dykstra. 6'6 290 OL. Also with offers from Iowa State and UNI. Remember another Dykstra who had a Iowa State offer!

I saw Austin @ the Roosevelt girls basketball game the other night wearing an SDSU football hoodie. I would think he's pretty happy with this offer.

He is the brother of Jordan Dykstra who played basketball at State. The parents moved 2 years ago to Spirit Lake. Nice athlete with a nice frame.

So what holes from a position and depth perspective do they actually need on the team and does anyone know of targets not yet offered?

Pretty early to know what holes will need to be filled by the 2017 class. Most classes are fairly balanced across the board with maybe a little more stocking up in positions of need (which usually isn't known at this point), so I would expect the same from this class.

In terms of known targets not yet offered, I'm sure there are a ton of them at this point, most of which we have no clue about until we get further into the process. We'll know a lot more when elite camps take place this summer.

I probably asked the question the wrong way--football coaches know exactly who they have up on the boards for targets and are constantly ranking and re-ranking those targets based on needs, risk with contingency plans for each class including 2017--I wouldn't doubt based on how things are done now they haven't already started thinking 2018 targets. Sure there are surprise potential plays they run across more in season but they play chess with this nearly full time in the off season weighing risk, depth etc. Several coaches have shared they can have up to 20-30 targeted kids by each position identified but not yet contacted they have identified years in advance of being able to even talk to them. Not sure how SDSU views this or how much insight and thoughts the coaches share on recruiting both long and near term.

Colton Cook, a 6'4" 270 OL from Minot, ND will be attending SDSU's junior day next weekend according to his twitter account.

                            http://www.hudl.com/athlete/4695082/colton-cook

It might be overkill to make a post about every camp attendee without them receiving an offer, but I am happy to see we're at least looking into potential prospects in ND. There is some talent in the state and SDSU could be appealing to some of their more rural kids, especially the farther they are away from Fargo.

When are the summer camps scheduled? How many kids typically attend? I'd be curious too is this when most summer offers are made? Does anyone expect more offers to roll through the spring as guys attend practices and meet coaches?

In years past the elite camp has been held at the end of June. There was a star I believe from last years recruiting class that a majority of the signees had gone to the elite camp. IMO if someone is aware of someone interested they need to look at attending elite camp. Recruiting is a two way street not just the coaches reaching out.
