Reading comprehension lacking here. It's not an excuse for Saturday. It's the reason why we aren't a top 8 team every year, or a top 2 team every year like the Bison. Let's use the indoor practice facility as an example, shall we? Two years ago in the week leading up to the NDSU playoff game, the Jacks were practicing in basketball shoes on the Frost Arena floor. Do you think the SJAC is a better place to practice football than Frost Arena? They put in an entirely new package with ZZ at QB in the week before the game. Would that have been easy to do on a basketball floor? Do you think potential recruits and their parents might also find the SJAC compelling as a reason to come and play here? That's just one example. NDSU spends between $3.5 million and $4 million on football alone. SDSU, in 2012, spent $2.5 million. I suppose we might disagree about CAS and whether or not it's a draw for student athletes, but I would hope we could at least agree that it lacks the amenities to make up that $1.5 million gap without any luxury boxes, etc. We'll have to agree to disagree if you simply don't believe that $1 million to $1.5 million makes any difference at all to the consistent quality of a football program.

Programs that are competitive at the top level every year have all of those bells and whistles. SDSU has had excellent teams from time to time, and very good teams in between those remarkable senior classes that come along now and then. We have succeeded in spite of facilities and budget. What I'm suggesting is to reach the next level of consistency, we do need those things. Somebody somewhere agrees with me since we're spending $100 million to get them.

Funny story about the end of the game: I was struggling to watch the game with a crappy connection the whole time and had an impending sortie (back in Afghanistan). I ended up having to head out to the jet right as we were starting our final drive. Talk about cruelty! I had to hang out for 5 hours before I could find out the outcome. Of course, it had to be a slow sortie as well so I had nothing to do but think about what was happening. I tried to get the FNG sitting at the duty desk to look up the score for me, but he passed that "San Diego State didn't play today"...

Oh well, it was one hell of a game. I have a ton of respect for the NDSU program and I wish them the best.

We'll drop off a bit in the short run, but in the medium term, we'll be in a position to compete for the final 8 every year. Four or five years from now, I anticipate there will pretty much always be two seeded teams from the Dakotas every year.

    Echo what most have said.

Great game, so disappointed in loss.

So proud of this team. And proud to support my school.

Was msgd by a Bison fan at half that the game "wasn't even close, the refs are keeping sdsu in it". And later when we took lead with 3 mins to go "biggest screw job ever". So that is the mindset I was exposed to.

Funny how they won 3 straight titles, and lost 2 games in 4 seasons with the officials out to get them.

Congrats to the Bison players and coaches. They are tremendous, and what we are reaching for, and almost got there yesterday.

Not a moral victory, this sucks.

But I am proud of my school, and my team.

That said, congrats on a good season, was fun watching Zenner and Sumner compete against the Bison all these years. Great players and really great classy guys, wish them nothing but the best in whatever they do next.

Both teams played at a very high level today and left it all out on the field. It felt like the seminfinal game we had against GSU a few years back, just an intense slugfest of a game.
I agree with everything in this post.

I agree the domination has ended. We finally have the indoor facilities needed to compete. Once the new stadium is completed, we can start to compete financially with Bison and the game day amenities needed to host multiple playoff games and put more games on TV. Increasing revenue and exposure for Jackrabbit football.

Not just for the rivalry but to get our own valuable homefield advantage. THat was the goal of the season according to Stig, and rightly so. To do that we need to beat the Valley top to bottom. That's what we need to do.Beating the Bison is nice, but it is not our Super Bowl. We are not Coyotes.
I agree with everything you say. Some of us get over it quicker than others. Just because i woke up this morning and was totally bummed anymore doesnt mean im happy with the close loss. Its a game, a loss and there isnt a damn thing we can do to change what happened. Time to move on to Basketball. Im pretty sure we'll see the phrase "moral victory" again come march.

I'm not claiming any moral victory -- don't believe in moral victories. In making my prediction about the end of domination, I'm not looking at one or two games. I'm looking at trends. I'll pull some stats out of each team's media guides to demonstrate what I'm getting at...will take a few minutes. (Will create separate thread.)

I don't either. The only thing that matters is wins and losses. To say that the domination has ended because we finally played them close, but still lost, is the exact definition of a 'moral victory' in my book. Until the Jacks actually beat the Bison, their domination reigns.

I should explain: People are stating opinions on the game. In my opinion, we played as well as the Bison. In some respects, better. In some respects -- unfortunately the score at the end being most notable -- not quite as well. People should be allowed to comment on the game, good or bad, without having the bugaboo "no moral victories" thrown at them. Oh, and if people want to throw out "no moral victories", that's okay too but I reserve the right to wade in with an opinion.

I see where rabit1 is coming from. We played well yesterday, probably as well as we could. Reading some posts I get the feeling some seem ok with what happened yesterday because we played well.

Here's how I see yesterday. We took a senior laden team with arguably the best RB and QB SDSU has ever seen and we still can't beat a Bison team that graduated a ton of players last year. They were supposed to be rebuilding. Looks like they reloaded.

Rabbitobssessed said it best: the bison are our daddy's.
