I took some time and looked up some highlights of EWU on Youtube and watched them play Montana and Cal Poly. At first glance, it doesn't look like a great match up for us. It looks as if they dare you to blitz them, and when you do they just launch it up and let big fast receivers go get it. I think the same recipe as NAU keep them off the field by leaning on their defense, and get pressure with 4 guys so we can cover their receivers. They are fast and athletic.

Hopefully we can sustain long drives to keep their offense off the field!

Most teams aren't as quite good as their fans think they are. The Jacks deal with the opposite situation. The Jacks are better than many of their fans think. Yes, the Jacks will be facing a tough offense. But Eastern Washington staffers have got to be getting nervous as they review video of the Jacks' D-front and Zenner breaking through tackles and outrunning D-backs.

Know thy opponent! Looks like all passing, pretty one dimentional.

Got a kick out of the TD pass where the guy knocks down the pylon flying through the air on the "out of bounds " side of it.Ref calls TD.Must be a rule, if the pylon goes down, must be a TD,even if it's knocked down from out of bounds I guess.
I think they focus on the pylon, and ignore if the
ball is inbounds or out of bounds on the sideline. They must just call TD instead of having to run a play an inch or two from goal line, but, was the ball always inbounds,or did it go out of bounds and come back inbounds, can't do that. His body was clearly out at about the two yd line.

If we can get good pass rush with just our D line,+ one or two LB's ,who they don't know what their reads are, will disrupt their passing and run game and we'll be covering people one would assume. Only concern would be their speedsters getting loose.Take their big plays away, eliminate those long TD's and force them to play "grind it out one inch at a time football",and we'll definately have the advantage.

The goal line extends forever. As long as the body does not touch and the ball extends over that goal line it is a TD.

Watching the highlights reminds me of the vaunted EIU offense that we faced last year in the first round. It looks like they have some great speed and athletes so our safeties will have to play disciplined. Let's smash them in the mouth and see what they think. I'm guessing their response will be similar to EIU. BTW, Montana's defense looked like they couldn't tackle at all. If Montana and NDSU meet in the next round NDSU will kill them.

This just feels like the set up before the SDSU-EIU game last year. IMHO, EWU has not played a defensive team, and a successful O-line dominating, grind it out offense like the Jacks. Quite literally our best defense is just to munch up time, and keep the Eagles' offense on the sidelines. The EWU d appears horrible, and they will go shoot-out all day, and quick strike offense. Their 1 point 42-41 come from behind win vs. Portland St. type play should play right into Jacks' D strengths. Jacks will need to continue our takeaway gains.

A football field has boudries, hence the term out of bounds.if the ball goes out of bounds, its a dead ball ,if it goes out of bounds then back in to hit the pylon, before the pylon is struck, the correct spot should be where the ball went out of the field of play,....play over, done. This is where the ref failed in my opinion. No different than say a fumbled live ball going out of bounds.Where the ball goes out of bounds, that should be the spot.

I think you need to review the rules of football. If the players body did not touch the ground out of bounds, where the ball is makes no difference. As Westside mentioned, the goal line extends forever. The ball could have crossed the goal line outside of the pylon and still been a TD if the player hadn't touched out of bounds yet.

                        Re: Eastern Washington

The goal line only extends forever if the player touches the ground in bounds in the endzone or touches one of the corner pylons. Otherwise the goal line only extends pylon to pylon. This rule was changed only 2 or 3 years ago. If you watched the Auburn game, on one of Auburn's touchdowns that was overturned on review (incorrectly), the ball carrier jumped out of bounds at the 2 but had to stick the ball back into the field of play so that it would pass over the pylon, making it a touchdown. However, had he been able to touch the pylon while airborne, even with his toe or something, then he could have been carrying the ball in his sideline hand a yard out of bounds and it would have crossed the now-infinite goal line, resulting in a touchdown. The pylons are effectively part of the ground of the endzone in boiunds.

As for the EWU game, the Jacks have to get to Vernon Adams in whatever way necessary. He's mobile and a very good passer, particularly with reading a defense and finding a mismatch. His receivers are all very fast, and he can often get away with "overthrowing" them on a route and just letting them catch up to it way out ahead of poor coverage (see the Montana game where Montana's LB Kanongata'a got burned on a coverage mismatch for a long TD).

Stupid rule change, don't like players scoring TD,s from out- of bounds period...make them score in the playing field like its supposed to be and always was ,until this brain disfunction by some meddler. Can you defend the ball from crossing this goal line that circles the globe,or are the defenders restricted to the playing field? This is just dumb.

The part in bold is imperative. The Jacks secondary needs all the help they can get.
